About the Role As a member of the Board of HomeEd, a Directors role is to govern and guide the strategic direction of the organization in line with HomeEds: Mission (what we do): Provide Edmontonians with quality, affordable housing. Purpose (why we do what we do): Better housing cant wait. Vision (where were going): Reimagining affordable housing as sustainable, growing, and valued throughout Edmonton. The Board of Directors is accountable to HomeEds Shareholder the City of Edmonton, as represented by the Mayor and City Council. The Board oversees the Chief Executive Officer of HomeEd, who manages HomeEds operations and the execution of HomeEds strategic plan. About the Candidate HomeEd is recruiting up to two (2) volunteer Directors to bring their diverse perspectives, knowledge, skills, and both lived and professional experiences to this role. Directors must be at least 18 years old, reside in Edmonton, and are expected to have the following competencies: Strategic thinking Financial literacy Decision-making Interpersonal skills Integrity HomeEd recognizes the importance of our Board accurately reflecting the communities our work aims to benefit. We are actively seeking individuals who have lived experience as a member of historically underrepresented communities, including: Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color (BIPOC) LGBTQ2S+ Differently-abled History living in subsidized rental housing Expertise in the following areas is of particular interest in this recruitment: Housing and Social Services Government Administration Information Technology Time Commitment Directors spend about six (6) to eight (8) hours per month on Board business, which may vary depending on the circumstances. The Board typically meets monthly, including two meetings per year with the Shareholder. Meetings are typically held between 5:00 and 8:00 pm on the first Thursday of the month. The following standing committees meet at least once every quarter: Human Resource & Governance Finance, Audit & Risk Property Acquisition & Development Compensation Board members serve in a voluntary capacity. However, Directors will be reimbursed for any approved out-of-pocket receipts incurred as a result of conducting Board activities. Selection Process The Human Resource & Governance Committee of the Board will review all applications, then interview a shortlist of candidates in February and March.
