As Director of Environmental Regulation, youll guide highimpact programs, shape regulatory policy, and influence the protection of Albertas land, wildlife, and critical infrastructure. Responsibilities Develop and implement environmental standards, guidelines, and best practices for infrastructure projects. Provide expert regulatory guidance that balances compliance, cost, and risk. Mentor staff and build departmentwide capacity in environmental awareness and performance. Lead departmental environmental remediation and liability management, including prioritization and funding allocation. Oversee road closures and aggregate policies, ensuring alignment with legislation and operational priorities. Manage the Alberta Wildlife Watch program, including mitigation funding and strategic direction for animalvehicle collision reduction. Oversee environmental auditing of departmental work to monitor and improve performance. Collaborate with regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, and other ministries to align on environmental approaches and resolve complex issues. Qualifications Required Related university degree (e.g., Sciences) with at least seven (7) years of progressively related experience. A valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence or equivalent. Indepth knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulatory requirements. Indepth knowledge of the departments Environmental Management System and related standards, specifications, guidelines, and requirements. Must Also Have Ten years of experience leading environmental assessments and/or evaluations for infrastructure projects across all phases. Working knowledge of fisheries, wildlife, contaminated sites, soils, historical resources, and rare species within an Alberta regulatory context. Demonstrated experience leading teams of highly skilled professionals, including mentoring and training. Broader experience navigating multistakeholder regulatory environments. Assets Understanding of road closure processes. Understanding of the Alberta Wildlife Watch Program. Experience responding to inquiries from the Office of the Auditor General. Experience in aggregate management policies within the TEC framework. Additional certifications or training related to environmental management, impact assessment, or regulatory compliance. Experience working directly with provincial or municipal agencies in Alberta. Term and Working Conditions Permanent Fulltime position. Travel may consist of up to 10% of the work schedule.
