Together this northern infrastructure forms the nexus of Canadas Arctic Trade Corridor, providing a reliable and efficient route for Canadian resources to access world markets. As we continue to grow and strengthen our relationship with northern and First Nations communities, were seeking a Communications Specialist to join our team in a fully remote position. Position Summary The Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing Arctic Gateway Groups daytoday communications activities. This includes producing professional, engaging content; supporting internal and external communications; and amplifying our organizational voice across multiple platforms. Key Responsibilities Communications Strategy & Planning Assist in the implementation of organization-wide strategic communication plans Maintain consistent messaging across all communication channels. Collaborate with northern and First Nations organizations to enhance communication pathways. Identify emerging trends, tools, and best practices to support continuous improvement. Content Development & Management Write, edit, and produce materials including speeches, newsletters, reports, memos, presentations, website copy, social media posts, media releases, and promotional materials. Draft and edit correspondence, statements, and messages Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and other communication channels. Prepare briefing notes and communication packages for senior leadership. Support the marketing team with the creation of the annual report and other major publications. Translate complex information into clear, accessible, and relatable content for diverse audiences. Manage Arctic Gateway Groups social media platforms and website. Support the marketing team in maintaining a professional library of digital assets. Manage communications calendars, deadlines, and content schedules. Stakeholder & Media Relations Support the creation of media releases and coordinate responses to media inquiries. Support public announcements, community partnership updates, and event promotion. Provide communications support and guidance to internal teams. Attend meetings and events (virtually or in-person as needed) as communications support. Community Engagement & Storytelling Support community-led storytelling that reflects northern experiences and perspectives. Gather stories, images, and testimonials from community partners and staff. Participate in community visits and events as required. Branding & Design Support Ensure adherence to Arctic Gateway Group brand standards. Assist the marketing team with the development of digital assets for social media. Qualifications & Education Diploma or Bachelors degree in communications, Public Relations, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Experience & Skills Minimum three (3) years of experience in communications. Strong writing, editing, research and storytelling capabilities. Experience drafting executive-level correspondence and professional social media messaging. Advanced digital and social media skills, including analytics and content planning. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, SharePoint; Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator an asset. Demonstrated experience working with northern and First Nations organizations. Strong understanding of Indigenous culture, history, governance, and contemporary issues. Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time management. Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Valid Manitoba drivers license and reliable vehicle (for occasional travel). Ability to obtain and maintain all required background checks. Additional Requirements Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous and northern Manitoba applicants. Lived experience in a Northern Manitoba community, and an understanding of the local culture, the geography, and communication would be considered an asset.
