The Community Standards Peace Officers (CSPO) are responsible to carry out daily duties and responsibilities of the CSPO Section, which provides investigation and enforcement services to the general public, industry and City Departments. All of this contributes to a safer Edmonton. What will you do? Deliver city wide Peace Officer and bylaw enforcement services as appointed, upholding community standards, safety, and enhancing livability. Conduct detailed investigations relating to public inquiries and officer initiated complaints and concerns Interview and obtain statements from complainants, witnesses and defendants Gather and prepare evidence from a variety of sources Determine appropriate enforcement action; including but not limited to issuing warnings, directions, and violation tickets. Be deployed as a resource to meet operational and special event requirements Support internal City partners including but not limited to other enforcement groups, City Operations, Parks And Roads Services, Civic Events, Social Development, and the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. Conduct moving vehicle traffic stops in adherence to Section policy and the Provincial guidelines regarding the use of Emergency Vehicles for enforcing moving violations under the Traffic Safety Act, and city bylaws. Provide medical interventions and connection to support systems related to drug poisoning events. Establish and maintain accurate paper and electronic records and files Prepare letters, reports and court documents; present evidence in court Conduct proactive highly visible patrols on foot and in marked patrol vehicles Act as a positive ambassador for the City of Edmonton Other duties as assigned or required For more information, visit: Completion of a recognized diploma in police studies, security, criminology, sociology, or related field and A minimum of three (3) years of strong customer service or diverse law enforcement experience; OR Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of 5 years enforcement experience in a recognized policing or law enforcement environment; OR Two years experience as a Police Officer or Community Peace Officer level 1 or equivalent in Canada within the past five (5) years. Assets: Professional knowledge of the Community Peace Officer designation, provincial peace officer program standards, and the role of a Community Peace Officer in Alberta. Knowledge of the Edmonton Community Standards Peace Officer program, including laws enforced, organizational structure, and duties. Knowledge of operational and tactical planning. Knowledge of MOVES, APIS, CPIC, Corporate Registries and other programs. Experience in conducting moving violation enforcement and uniformed enforcement, commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement. Completion of PSES accredited training in: Control Tactics, or verbal de-escalation. Skills required for success: Ability to make effective, calm decisions under pressure and in potentially volatile situations. Skilled in exercising tact and firmness to de-escalate difficult situations and build consensus. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise investigative reports and interact compassionately with the public. Strong geographical understanding of the City of Edmonton, to support assistance with wayfinding, and response to concerns. Ability to think critically, analyze complex issues, and develop effective solutions independently. Ability to represent the City of Edmonton in an honest, respectful, and safe manner at all times. Proven ability to manage changing priorities, work in a team or independently, and handle sensitive information appropriately. Knowledge of computer software, including records management and reporting systems. Ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes dangerous environments. Must be able to work independently on confidential and complex issues. Knowledge and practical application of dealing with difficult persons; strong analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must possess strong presentation and public speaking skills. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. Strong team player with the ability to contribute to a high performing team. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite. Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. Valid Alberta Class 5 driver''s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver''s permit is a requirement. Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications. Completion of a pre-employment Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE) satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. Obtain and retain the Provincial Community Peace Officer I Designation and associated peace officer certifications. Obtain and retain bylaw enforcement officer status. Applicants may be tested. Work Environment: Shift work requirements: Evening and weekend availability is required. Must be able to work a variety of shifts. This role works primarily in an outdoor setting with exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, noise, and mechanical hazards. May require working in confined spaces and/or at heights. Requires maintaining awkward or constrained physical positions for prolonged periods. Completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks (standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, pushing, pulling). Public facing role requiring interaction with diverse people in various emotional states.
