YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is situated on 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness, surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8 km of shoreline, over 26 km of hiking trails, 7,500 sq. ft. of dock, and 60 buildings. Role: Swimming Program Head The Swimming Program Head is responsible for the effective day-to-day operation of the waterfront, with a dedicated focus on all swimming program areas. This role facilitates daily swim instruction, conducts swim tests, and ensures accurate tracking of results. It ensures safety standards, policies, procedures, and expectations are followed, including compliance with Camping Quality Recommended Practices and Ontario Camps Association standards. The position oversees maintenance of swimming equipment and related documentation, while supporting counselors during waterfront cabin programs and collaborating with other program heads to deliver camp-wide activities and theme days. The Swimming Program Head provides leadership and support to staff, helping foster a safe and positive waterfront experience for all participants. You will do Coordinate all swimming programs, including direct program delivery as required Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and other program heads to plan and lead all camp activities, section nights, and special events Provide leadership to all YMCA staff by ensuring they understand how to contribute to a safe and positive waterfront experience for all participants, and promptly relay any concerns to the Program Coordinator Assist with the planning and execution of all camp days and themed programs Ensure administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time, including paperwork for the swimming area such as in-service trainings, opening and closing checklists, swim tests, and other duties delegated by the Program Coordinator Monitor safety of waterfront activities and respond to rectify any safety concerns, ensuring a safe and organized waterfront environment Supervise participants in and around the water and in vessels such as canoes or kayaks Act as a positive role model for children, youth, and staff by embodying YMCA values, camp principles, policies, and Ontario Camps Association standards Perform other duties as assigned You bring Standard First Aid & CPR-C, NLS, and Pleasure Craft Operators Card by first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of the contract Minimum 2 years experience in a camp or aquatic/waterfront environment Experience teaching swimming-related programming Lifesaving Instructor & Examiner considered an asset Ability to work effectively with others and independently Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to lead and empower an inclusive staff team Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and communicate with members, staff, and volunteers Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as required Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging Additional information If you are interested in this position and do not possess the necessary certifications and require assistance attaining them, please indicate this in your cover letter.
