Job Description

The Pricing Underwriter is responsible for supporting the pricing, quoting, and renewal of group Life and Health insurance products for new and existing clients. The role sits within a team structure that manages both new business quotations and renewal pricing, and works closely with Medical Underwriting, Reinsurance partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate, competitive, and compliant pricing decisions. This position involves a mix of technical underwriting analysis, pricing support, and administrative responsibilities, including the calculation of non-evidence maximums (NEMs) for Life and Disability benefits. Key Responsibilities Support the pricing and underwriting of new business quotations across Life, Disability, and Health products. Assist with the renewal pricing of existing client portfolios, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, experience, and profitability targets. Review client data, benefit structures, and plan designs to support accurate pricing outcomes. Prepare pricing summaries, underwriting rationales, and documentation for internal approval. Underwriting & Technical Support Calculate and administer Non-Evidence Maximums (NEMs) for Life and Disability benefits in accordance with underwriting guidelines and treaty limits. Support benefit eligibility assessments and underwriting requirements for group schemes. Work closely with the Medical Underwriting team to assess risk factors, medical requirements, and underwriting outcomes. Apply underwriting guidelines consistently while identifying cases requiring referral or escalation. Reinsurance & External Collaboration Liaise with reinsurance partners to obtain approvals, guidance, and capacity for new business and renewals. Prepare and submit reinsurance referrals, including benefit details, claims experience, and underwriting rationale. Incorporate reinsurer feedback into final pricing and underwriting decisions. Administration & Data Management Maintain accurate underwriting and pricing records within internal systems. Ensure timely and accurate documentation of pricing assumptions, decisions, and approvals. Support audits, reporting, and internal governance requirements. Assist in the continuous improvement of pricing tools, processes, and controls. Stakeholder Collaboration Work collaboratively with Sales, Client Management, Actuarial, Medical Underwriting, and Operations teams. Provide technical pricing and underwriting support to internal stakeholders as required. Contribute to team knowledge sharing and development of underwriting best practices. Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail. Good understanding of group Life, Disability, and/or Health insurance products. Ability to interpret underwriting guidelines, pricing assumptions, and reinsurance treaty terms. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams. Qualifications & Experience Post secondary education with a focus in Mathematics, Finance, Insurance, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in an analyst role Previous experience in pricing, underwriting, or insurance administration within Life and Health insurance preferred. Exposure to group insurance products, renewals, and reinsurance processes is an advantage. Progress toward relevant professional insurance or actuarial qualifications is desirable.
