TITLE: Facilities Maintenance Worker LOCATION: 661 Main Street DEPARTMENT: Facilities POSITION TYPE: Full-time Indefinite Term REPORTS TO: Facilities Coordinator WAGE: $20.48 WORK HOURS: Monday to Friday (1:30PM-10PM) ABOUT THE COMPANY Main Street Project (MSP) is a community health Centre with a mandate to address the social determinants of health which give rise to issues of addiction, physical and mental health issues and homelessness. MSP uses housing-first and harm reduction principles in the provision of a safe, respectful and accessible place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in the community. Since 1972, MSP has been providing a range of services to Winnipeg''s most marginalized residents, including emergency shelter and nutrition services, drug and alcohol withdrawal management services, health advocacy and support, case management services, housing support services, food bank services and a mobile community outreach program. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Facilities Coordinator, the Maintenance Worker is a key part of ensuring that Main Street Project (MSP) buildings, both interior and exterior, are kept functional and in good condition for participants that access MSP''s program and services. This role includes maintenance tasks are both preventative maintenance and reacting to emerging building needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Complete assigned maintenance tasks each shift, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication Take the lead on maintenance projects including, but not limited to, minor plumbing issues (e.g. unclogging drains, etc.), simple carpentry (e.g. dry wall patching, door replacement, etc.), painting and removal/installation/assembly of furniture and fixtures Monitor and execute preventative maintenance measures according to established maintenance plans Meet with external contractors to provide support and information where needed Notify Coordinator concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems Collect and remove garbage from MSP owned property, both indoors and outdoors as requested/required Picking up full sharps containers and bringing them to a centralized pick up location Adhere to health and safety protocols (WHMIS, PPE, Occupational Safety and Health) Snow removal and ice sanding as required Moving of furniture, donations and deliveries Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Prior maintenance experience in a similar community health environment Knowledge and understanding of basic maintenance issues including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, and electrical Reliable, punctual, and dependable in fulfilling position obligations Attention to detail and ability to complete tasks Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changing needs and tasks Ability to take initiative beyond the scope of assigned daily and weekly tasks to meets the needs of the department Excellent verbal and written communication skills Customer Service skills, ability to interact professionally with staff, visitors, clients and management Working knowledge of basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook). ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials Comfortability working with biohazardous waste Ability to handle and move objects, using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials Understanding of and ability to adhere to health and safety protocols (WHMIS, PPE, Occupational Safety and Health) Working knowledge of basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook). Ability to lift 50lbs or more Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required.
