Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse OR Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join the team in Powell River, BC. Apply today to join our team! Responsibilities Use sound judgment and apply critical thinking skills in providing resident care to predominantly older residents in a Long Term Care setting, both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate expertise in nursing practice, coordinate the implementation of clinical interventions, and evaluate resident outcomes based on resident goals of care. Serve as a resource for the interdisciplinary team by providing information and coordinating ongoing resident care. Support the work of RCAs and LPNs to ensure residentcentred care and cohesive teamwork. Enhance the quality of life of residents and families. Consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care providers. Maintain and advance clinical competence. Participate on designated committees, teams, and approved research projects as assigned. Education & Experience Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of an approved gerontology course or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Skills & Abilities Demonstrated nursing practice related to residents with chronic diseases. Knowledge of pathophysiology of common medical conditions, aging changes, polypharmacy, treatment protocols, and nursing interventions for longterm care residents. Ability to provide nursing assessments and interventions for conditions such as respiratory symptoms, pressure ulcers, delirium, dementia, behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, dysphagia, falls, and incontinence. Recognition of physical adaptations needed for frail or physically impaired residents. Experience with endoflife care, embedding palliative approaches in longterm care, and leading family discussions on goals of care. Chronic disease management, anticipating and responding to complications in the resident population. Competence in using equipment such as lifts, oxygen, suction machines, pumps, and related devices. Development and implementation of care plans aligned with resident and family priorities, including counselling and teaching. Management of acute and chronic pain in residents, including those with cognitive impairment. Safe care and management of residents receiving oxygen therapy, VAC dressing, wound care, catheters, ostomy care, tracheostomy care, ventilator management, and related treatments. Autonomous RN practice and adherence to standards of care, including IV therapy, infection control, isolation protocols, outbreak protocols, nicotine replacement therapy, and acute event orders. Work Hours Hours of work, including days off and work area, may be subject to change in accordance with operational requirements, the Collective Agreement, and applicable statutes.
