Queens Park Care Centre is located in New Westminster and provides rehabilitation services, an adult day program and a long-term care community. QPCC has an outpatient rehab service and 76 specialized inpatient rehabilitation beds for various patient populations including Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury and Stroke rehab patients, as well as lower leg amputees, complex neurological conditions and other musculoskeletal injuries. Detailed OverviewUnder general supervision, performs a variety of clerical duties related to the operation of a patient care area, including acting as a communication link, transcribing and processing physicians' orders, coordinating with other departments and facilities, coordinating patient appointments, arranging patient tests and receiving results, receiving and directing visitors, and assembling and maintaining patient charts. ResponsibilitiesPrioritizes, processes, coordinates and transcribes physicians' orders by copying information, completing required forms and/or entering information into the computer and distributing information; follows up as necessary.Schedules, books and coordinates patient appointments, arranges tests, maintains appointment diaries, and confirms appointments.Acts as a communication link for the assigned area, including bed booking to exchange information regarding bed availability to assist admissions, discharges and transfers; receives patients' tests, visitors, and provides information as appropriate.Assembles and maintains patient charts per procedures; transcribes patient data into the health record system; attaches lab or special examination reports; forwards discharged records to Health Records.Answers telephones, takes messages, handles routine inquiries, and distributes mail as required.Performs related clerical duties such as data entry, filing, statistics, supplies management, and tracking equipment repairs as required.Maintains timekeeping records for regular and casual staff and processes them for payroll; handles vacation, leaves of absence and terminations as required.Coordinates with nursing staff regarding illnesses or absences and communicates with nursing unit; arranges relief nursing according to guidelines.Maintains records on relief staff including contact information, availability and hours worked.Performs other related duties as required. QualificationsEducation and ExperienceGrade 12, medical terminology and graduation of a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program, plus one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Skills And AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm.Ability to organize work.Ability to operate related equipment.Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
