From time to time, CKUA engages casual Announcer Producers to provide fill-in hosting support across its programming schedule. This posting represents an ongoing expression of interest, intended to build andmaintaina pool of qualifiedon-airhosts who can step in as needed to support existing shows. There is no immediate vacancy associated with this posting. This is a casual role with hours that vary based on programming needs. Fill-in shifts may be scheduled in advance or arise with short notice. Preparation work can be completed remotely, however live hosting takes place in the CKUA studio in either Edmonton or Calgary. Announcer Producers work alongside a community of broadcasters, producers, and music lovers who care deeply about consistency, quality, and the listener experience. HowCasualAnnouncer ProducersMake an Impact In a fill-in capacity, Announcer Producers help ensure continuity across CKUA''s programming. Shows are hosted in alignment with the established tone, format, and flow of the regular program, while still sounding natural, engaged, and present. The role includes reviewing show outlines or host notes, preparing music and content in advance, operating studio equipment during live broadcasts, and collaborating with producers to ensure smooth transitions on air. Announcer Producers may step in for scheduled absences, vacation coverage, or unforeseen needs, supporting both weekday and weekend programming asrequired. While each host brings professionalism and personality to the broadcast, the focusremainson stewarding the existing show andmaintainingthe trusted relationship listeners have with CKUA''s programming. What Casual Announcer Producers Bring CasualAnnouncer Producers bring flexibility, reliability, and a strong understanding of what it means to step into someone else''s show with care and respect. The ability to adapt quickly, follow established formats, andmaintainconsistency on air is essential. Experience may come from community or campus radio, podcasting, digital audio, or other broadcast environments. Familiarity with live radio workflows is important, particularly in situations where preparation time may be limited. Announcer Producers are comfortable working independently,remainingcalm in a live studio environment, and taking direction when needed. Experience with tools such as Adobe Audition or OMT is an asset, and a willingness to learn CKUA''s systems and standards is expected. A collaborative mindset and a commitment to inclusive, community-driven media are central to this work. Care for music, story, and the listener experience guides every broadcast. Additional Details This is a casual, unionized position based in Edmonton or Calgary. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Collective Agreement between CKUA and IBEW Local 2228. The current starting rate for this role is $22.75per hour. As a casual role, there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours. Scheduling is based on programming needs, operational requirements, and individual availability.
