Job Description

Position Summary Our Toronto office has an opportunity for a Practice Assistant to join the firm''s expanding practice. The Practice Assistant supports the delivery of quality legal services to clients by providing secretarial and administrative assistance to lawyers, performing complex and specialized tasks, and working collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment. This position will support two or more lawyers as primary assignments and may provide back-up assistance to other lawyers when needed. Requirements 5+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Practice Assistant, preferably in a labour and employment practice. Degree or diploma from a recognized institution. Law clerk diploma or degree in legal studies a plus. Superior organizational skills including filing and calendaring. Timekeeping, billing, and diarizing experience. Strong computer proficiency in the use of all Microsoft applications, including, but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Experience with document management systems, time entry, e-filing, expense and billing systems, and database software. Able to operate common office equipment including but not limited to: multi-line phone system, copier, fax, scanner, presentation equipment. Client-centered and professional approach in all phone calls, emails, letters, etc. Attentive to detail and comfortable with fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to organize, manage, prioritize, and handle multiple projects/tasks. Knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents, court rules and procedures, and legal processes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain high levels of discretion and confidentiality. Regular, predictable and punctual attendance with flexibility to work additional hours when needed.
