Job Description

Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) is an active, acute-care community hospital located in the heart of the City of Kawartha Lakes. Among our acute and continuing care services, our team cares for 45,000 patients per year in the 24/7/365 emergency department, provides orthopedics and ophthalmology, operates a dialysis unit, and is renowned for its mental health programs and restorative seniors care. Department/Unit/Program Description The Medical Inpatient Unit is a 40-bed acute care unit including eight telemetry beds, supported by a patient-centred multi-disciplinary team which respects patients'' confidentiality, rights, and choices. All patients requiring medical care can be admitted to the medical program. The most common types of patients admitted to the unit are acute coronary syndromes (heart attacks, angina), congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, pneumonia, and those with social challenges. The ICU is a Basic Level 3 ICU, providing specialized care for critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and interventions. The ICU team includes a nurse-led Critical Care Response Team and Respiratory Therapists, who are integral to the delivery of critical care services. This leadership role combines strategic management of patient flow across the organization with operational oversight of ICU (including Respiratory Therapy and Critical Care Response Team). Position Summary The Unit Manager reports to the Director of Medicine, Dialysis and Post Acute. They promote, facilitate, and manage the unit environment in such a way that patients receive exceptional care. Exceptional care will be evident through the delivery of safe, effective care that promotes a positive experience for patients and families, while supporting a successful transition home. The unit manager is a key part of the health care team providing leadership in the management of human fiscal resources. The unit manager will foster a cohesive and motivated team and serve as an ambassador for the team(s). As the unit manager of these units, you will be accountable for facilitating clinical excellence, leadership, and management leading to the delivery of patient centred, quality acute care. Your leadership demonstrates creativity, innovation, flexibility, and professional knowledge suitable to the interdisciplinary environment. Working collaboratively with community providers, you will engage in key activities to promote positive public relations with patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and volunteers. If you are looking for a challenging position with the opportunity to make a difference in our patients and our community then Ross Memorial Hospital is the place for you Effective date: February 23, 2026 Essential Qualifications Active Registration in good standing with a professional college (e.g. CNO) BScN or associated degree Minimum five (5) years nursing experience in an acute care environment with three (3) years'' recent supervisory or management experience Demonstrated understanding of the hospital or personnel management policies and procedures and the ability to interpret and apply same to achieve departmental goals Proven ability to successfully manage departmental budgets, explain and provide corrections to budget variances Demonstrated contribution to the development and control of the operating and capital budgets Demonstrated experience in the human resource management Demonstrated leadership success Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and co-operatively with all levels of staff, patients and the public and demonstrated success in establishing respect and credibility through actions Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner Demonstrated effective conflict resolution skills Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with an ability to multi-task during high stress situations Collaborative approach to problem solving Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills Demonstrated attention to accuracy and detail Commitment to inter-professional practice and lifelong learning Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with all regulatory and professional standards of care with includes accreditation Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the jobs, as per the current Physical Demands Analysis Preferred Qualifications Master''s Degree in Health Administration Member of Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) Hours of Work Hours of work for this position are 37.5 hours/week.
