About the Role Act as a Property Standards and By-Law Officer for Lambton County and/or contracting municipalities by assisting the Deputy Chief Building Official in enforcing the provisions of the Building Code Act, the Ontario Building Code, Municipal By-Laws, and regulations. Job Duties and Responsibilities Enforcement Duties: Investigate property standards complaints and produce records of inspection of buildings and yard conditions, issue orders, and obtain compliance. Investigate municipal by-law complaints and produce records of inspection. Produce orders for non-conformity and determine ownership for proper service of orders. Provide expert testimony in court. Investigate sewage systems for unsafe conditions and produce orders to remedy. Inspect plumbing systems for compliance with the Building Code. Administrative Duties: Answer inquiries regarding building construction, municipal by-law interpretation, administration of the Building Code Act, regulations, and other applicable laws in person, by telephone, correspondence, and by computer. Enter and update inspection status information on the computerized database following Department procedures. Issue orders through database applications. Filing of issued tickets within prescribed timelines. Initiates prosecution for contraventions by swearing information, may serve summons (as Provincial Offences Officers), appear as an expert witness, and provide evidence in court. Appear before council (municipal) on matters pertaining to property standards and municipal by-laws and appeal hearings. When acting as By-Law Enforcement Officer (including site plan control), ensures compliance with relevant legislation for contracting municipalities.
