Senior Water Team members play a leadership role in directing the Grease Pole Climb and supervising Junior Water Team members during Orientation Week. They assist with training prior to the climb, including training Junior Water Team members, FRECs, and OTIS during pre-week. Senior members are responsible for maintaining safety within the Pit and communicating effectively with Water Team, climb participants, incoming students, and orientation leaders. The Water Team includes approximately 30 members, one of which is the Head of Water Team, four of which are Senior Water Team members. The team is divided into four subteams (Climb, Float, Communications, and Monitor Team). Each of these subteams have their own objectives, are led by a Senior Water Team member, and are composed of 4-9 Junior members per subteam. The Grease Pole is a high-risk event, and as such many risk reduction strategies are put in place to ensure a safe climb, including the water team. SWT members are expected to uphold these standards at all times. SWT responsibilities include: - Attending all Water Team training sessions - Providing clear instructions to participants during the event - Making quick, informed decisions and remaining calm under pressure - Maintaining order and safety within the Pit - Overseeing the positioning and securing of the Grease Pole in the Pit - Encouraging safe participation in the climb - Assessing and communicating with participants as needed - Identifying individuals that need to be removed from the Pit, be it for injury or behaviour - Supervising and supporting Junior members on their respective team - Training Junior members on all aspects of the climb - Supporting the Head of Water Team and other members of Senior Water Team as required Senior Water Team members will also be responsible for interviewing and selecting Junior Water Team members. JWT interviews will take place March 3rd-5th. All members of Senior Water Team must be willing and available to return to Kingston for in-person pre-week training, beginning Sunday, August 30th, Senior Water Team applications are due on Thursday, February 26th at 11:59 PM.
