Job Description

About Us Redoe Mold, founded in 1969, is a world-class global supplier specializing in the design and manufacture of high-precision surface-critical injection molds. With over 50 years of excellence, we are recognized for our cutting-edge technology, lean manufacturing processes, and commitment to quality. Our expertise spans thermoplastic, thermoset, and multi-material molds, with a particular focus on surface-critical applications. Position Summary The EDM / Wire EDM Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and optimization of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and Wire EDM equipment to produce precision components and complex geometries from various metal materials. The operator is expected to interpret blueprints and GD&T requirements, troubleshoot machining and inspection challenges, document results, and collaborate with engineering and quality teams to drive continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities: EDM & Wire EDM Machine Setup and Operation Set up and operate EDM and Wire EDM machines to cut intricate features and complex shapes in tool steel, and other alloys. Secure, align, and position workpieces using fixtures, vices, clamps, and precision tooling. Select appropriate electrodes, wire types, guides, dielectric fluids, and consumables based on material and job requirements. Validate program selection, tooling offsets, and work coordinate systems prior to machining. Programming & CNC/CAD/CAM Input Program and/or edit EDM and Wire EDM operations using CNC programming and CAD/CAM software tools. Manually input machining parameters when required. Optimize programs for improved cycle time, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy. Complete electrode surfacing, mounting, CNC programming and machining CMM Operation & Dimensional Inspection Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to conduct dimensional inspections of machined components. Verify dimensions, hole locations, profiles, contours, and true positions to engineering requirements, including tight tolerances. Execute, modify, and create measurement routines using CMM software. Document inspection results, identify trends, and escalate nonconformances to quality or engineering. Blueprint Interpretation & GD&T Compliance Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and job travelers. Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to machining and inspection strategies. Confirm critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics and ensure traceability to specification requirements. Process Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Adjustment Monitor machining and inspection activities to maintain process stability and consistent part quality. Troubleshoot process issues as needed Adjust machine parameters to optimize accuracy, prevent scrap, and improve throughput. Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Care Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, dielectric/water monitoring, and basic repairs. Track and report machine issues, perform minor troubleshooting, and coordinate with maintenance teams as needed. Ensure machines and inspection equipment are calibrated and maintained per internal procedures and quality standards. Documentation, Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Record process parameters, setup details, offsets, inspection results, and corrective actions. Collaborate with engineering, programming, quality, and production teams to improve manufacturability, reduce cycle time, improve yield and reduce rework, and enhance process capability. Support root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Safety, Housekeeping & Compliance Follow all health and safety protocols, including PPE requirements and safe material handling practices. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation (5S). Safely handle chemicals and dielectric fluids per SDS requirements and environmental policies. Performance Metrics (Illustrative): Quality & Inspection Metrics First Pass Yield (FPY) Scrap Rate Inspection Accuracy Tolerance Compliance Nonconformance Responsiveness: Timely identification and escalation of out-of-spec conditions Productivity & Efficiency Metrics On-Time Job Completion Machine Utilization / Runtime Setup Time Adherence: Setup completed within standard time or improved over baseline Program Optimization Contribution: Documented reductions in cycle time, wire breaks, or electrode consumption Process Reliability Metrics Unplanned Downtime: Reduction of downtime caused by avoidable issues Preventive Maintenance Compliance: Completion of assigned PM tasks Consumable Efficiency: Electrode and wire consumption aligned with job standards Safety & Workplace Standards Safety Compliance: Zero unsafe acts and full PPE adherence. Housekeeping / 5S Score: Maintains clean, organized workstation Incident-Free Performance: No recordable incidents and consistent hazard reporting Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Documentation Quality: Complete and accurate process and inspection records Improvement Participation: Contributions to Kaizen, corrective action efforts, and process improvements Communication Effectiveness: Effective handoffs, shift notes, and cross-functional feedback Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required Technical diploma, vocational training, machining certification, or apprenticeship in CNC machining/programming strongly preferred 3+ years of hands-on experience operating EDM, Wire EDM, and/or CMM equipment in a manufacturing environment. Experience working with precision components, molds, dies, aerospace/medical parts, or tight-tolerance machining is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of machining fundamentals and EDM processes (spark erosion, electrode design, burn strategy, wire cutting dynamics). Knowledge of tooling selection, workholding, material properties, and quality inspection principles. Proficiency with one or more CMM software platforms Familiarity with CAD/CAM, CNC programming environments, and OEM EDM software and tools. Comfortable working in ERP/MRP systems and digital job tracking systems (preferred).
