Position Summary: Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Exhibit Design & Quality, or designate, the Exhibit Technician supports the maintenance, repair, installation, and ongoing improvement of interactive exhibits throughout TELUS World of Science - Edmonton. This includes permanent galleries, traveling exhibitions, and special exhibit environments. The primary focus of this role is hands on technical and fabrication work to ensure exhibits remain safe, functional, and visitor ready. Work may take place on the exhibit floor, in support spaces, or in the fabrication shop. This position is well suited to someone early to mid-career who enjoys practical problem solving, working with physical systems, and learning within a collaborative exhibit development environment. The role offers opportunities to build technical breadth while developing confidence working with mechanical, electrical, and interactive exhibit systems. Duties and Responsibilities: In conjunction with the Senior Manager Exhibit Design & Quality, the incumbent will: Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on interactive exhibits and related systems. Troubleshoot mechanical, operational, and basic electrical issues affecting exhibit performance. Assist with exhibit installation, removal, reconfiguration, and upgrades Construct, modify, and repair exhibit components using materials such as wood, metal, plastics, and acrylics. Support the setup and teardown of traveling exhibitions and temporary visitor experiences. Monitor exhibit condition, identify wear or failure points, and communicate issues clearly to senior staff. Assist with sourcing parts, materials, or external services required for timely repairs. Read and interpret basic drawings, schematics, manuals, and instructions as required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work environment. Follow all safety procedures and contribute to safe exhibit operations for staff and visitors. Participate in ongoing learning related to exhibit systems, tools, and fabrication methods. Perform related duties as required. Knowledge and Abilities: Foundational experience or strong interest in hands on technical, fabrication, or maintenance work. Comfort working in a shop or maintenance environment, or a demonstrated willingness to learn. Ability to work with common fabrication materials including wood, metal, and plastics. Familiarity with hand tools and basic power tools, or the ability to develop these skills safely. Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability. Ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and learn from more experienced team members. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams. Initiative, reliability, and a genuine interest in building technical skills over time. Education and Experience: Completion of a related technical, trades, or fabrication focused program, or equivalent practical experience. One to three years of related experience in fabrication, maintenance, technical support, theatre, museum, or similar hands-on environments is an asset. Experience in museums, science centres, exhibits, events, or interactive public spaces is an asset but not required.
