Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member. Position Overview: As an undergraduate student, the selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Research Associate in the field of paleoanthropology and paleoarchaeology. Studies will be conducted using 3D models obtained from computed tomography scans, involving the use of various software programs for model reconstruction and analysis, as well as 3D printing techniques for model reproduction. The selected candidate will also perform various tasks related to the inventory of archaeological specimens in the laboratory. Duties: Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis, and interpretation. Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports and presentations. Perform academic research, standard tests and experiments including: Data processing from CT scans. Segmenting skeletal tissues to generate 3D meshes. 3D printing. Perform sample identification, classification, and record to improve sample traceability. Maintain and manage databases and research materials. Perform other duties as required or assigned. Qualifications: Must be a full-time student at The University of Winnipeg. Must be enrolled in the Bioanthropology program at The University of Winnipeg. Completed courses: ANTH-1003 Introductory Biological Anthropology and Archaeology, ANTH-2300 Method and Theory in Biological Anthropology, ANTH-3308 Human Evolution. Familiarity with MIRA-HOPE Laboratory projects. Familiarity with Human Osteology. Basic knowledge of photogrammetry and 3D reconstruction. Familiar with geometric morphometrics analysis. Prior experience in research preferred. Familiar with software like: Amira 3D, Fiji/ImageJ, 3D Slicer, Creality Halot Mage Pro and Halotbox. Familiar with Lab Inventory process and database management. Excellent communication skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, procedures, and regulations. Ability to work to deadlines and under moderate pressure. Ability to work in an unsupervised environment, and to work effectively on team-based projects. Familiarity with Lab work safety policies and procedure. Excellent organization and time management skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Attention to detail.
