Position Overview We are seeking an experienced IP & TMT (Intellectual Property, Technology, Media & Telecommunications) Specialist Lawyer with expertise in Latin American legal frameworks to join our Ottawa office. This role will support our expanding client portfolio seeking to navigate intellectual property protection, technology transactions and regulatory compliance across Latin American markets. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal counsel on cross-border IP matters, TMT regulatory frameworks and market entry strategies specific to the region. Key Responsibilities Advise clients on intellectual property protection strategies across Latin American jurisdictions, including patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret matters Provide legal counsel on technology transactions, licensing agreements, and TMT regulatory compliance in key Latin American markets including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile Conduct legal due diligence for clients expanding technology and media operations into Latin America, identifying jurisdiction-specific IP risks and mitigation strategies Draft and negotiate complex cross-border IP agreements, technology transfer arrangements and commercial contracts aligned with Latin American legal requirements Monitor and interpret evolving TMT regulations, data protection laws and digital economy frameworks across the region Collaborate with business development and strategy teams to integrate legal intelligence into market entry roadmaps and competitive analysis Build and maintain relationships with local counsel networks across Latin America to ensure comprehensive regional coverage> Prepare legal memoranda, risk assessments and client-facing presentations on Latin American IP and TMT legal landscapes Support dispute resolution and litigation strategy for IP-related matters in Latin American jurisdictions Qualifications & Requirements Required: LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized Canadian law school; member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or eligible for transfer Minimum 5-7 years of post-qualification experience in intellectual property and TMT law Specialized expertise in Latin American legal systems; LL.M. or equivalent qualification in Latin American law, intellectual property or international commercial law strongly preferred Demonstrated experience advising on IP protection, technology transactions or TMT regulatory matters in at least two Latin American jurisdictions Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese (business proficiency in both languages highly desirable) Strong analytical and research capabilities with ability to synthesize complex multi-jurisdictional legal frameworks Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to produce clientready legal analysis and strategic recommendations Preferred Experience in consultancy, advisory or inhouse legal roles with international market expansion focus Knowledge of competitive intelligence methodologies and market entry strategy development Familiarity with Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) procedures and fasttrack examination processes Professional network with law firms or legal experts across Latin America Experience with technology licensing, software agreements, IoT, and digital platform regulations Compensation & Benefits Salary: CAD $125,000 - $155,000 per annum, commensurate with experience Benefits Package Comprehensive group health dental and vision insurance for you and your dependents Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) matching program with employer contributions up to 5% Annual performancebased bonus up to 15% of base salary Four weeks paid vacation annually, plus statutory holidays Professional development allowance of CAD $5,000 annually for continuing legal education, conferences and certifications Hybrid work arrangement with flexibility for remote work Life and disability insurance coverage Employee wellness program and mental health support services Annual travel opportunities to Latin American markets for client engagement and professional networking Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates #J-18808-Ljbffr
