Job Summary And Requirements Please note, this is a seasonal position, working 75 hours biweekly, typically from early April to late September. Your role As the Fisheries Technician, you''ll support our vision and values be providing technical and logistical s upport for a range of programs within the Fisheries unit including conducting fisheries inventories (population and habitat assessments for multiple of freshwater northern fish species including lake trout, lake whitefish, burbot, bull trout and Arctic grayling), data analyses including spatial analysis, report writing, and public outreach. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, a well-developed sense of self-motivation, and excellent time management skills. The candidate will have strong understanding of the biology and habitat requirements of freshwater fish in Yukon and the principles of fisheries management. The candidate will have biological fieldwork experience, data entry and management experience, as well as technical experience in the care and maintenance of fisheries field equipment. The candidate will also have considerable analysis, writing and computer skills to allow them to effectively analyze, report on, and communicate technical information. Bachelor of Science, or Diploma in biology, environmental sciences, or natural resources conservation/management with a focus on fisheries sciences; Experience with fisheries study design, logistics, and sampling methods; Experience leading freshwater fisheries fieldwork in diverse weather conditions; Experience tracking field equipment inventory and maintaining field gear; Experience with data entry, management, analysis, and the use of related software entering (spreadsheets, databases, statistical analysis tools); Experience with GIS tools such as ArcGIS, ArcMap, or QGIS.
