Protect consumers in Ontario Join the Consumer Services Operations Division and play a key role in protecting consumers and supporting the division''s mandate by undertaking frontline consumer protection compliance activities and educating businesses on their legislative requirements. The division is responsible for providing front-line consumer protection services, education and outreach, compliance and enforcement, and business licensing and registration programs to the over 450,000 businesses and 15.5 million consumers in the province. Together, we can work towards an Ontario where consumer protection requirements are known, consumers are empowered, and businesses are compliant. About the job As part of the Inspections and Investigations team, you will conduct risk-based inspections of businesses across the province. Every day will be a little different, but you can expect it to include activities like: inspecting businesses, identifying compliance issues, and taking appropriate action preparing and issuing notices of contraventions, administrative monetary penalties, and director''s orders explaining compliance requirements to businesses, officials, and others assisting with investigations by preparing documents, filing, and serving legal documents Note: this position requires the ability to travel extensively, including overnight, throughout the province in remote locations with limited access to public transportation you may be required to work evenings and weekends What you bring to the team Mandatory requirements You must have a valid class ''G'' driver''s license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. Technical knowledge and skills You have: ability to understand, interpret and apply legislation and relevant acts, such as the Consumer Protection Act, 2002; Payday Loans Act, 2008; Collections and Debt Settlement Services Act; and Bailiffs Act awareness of current consumer protection issues, including business practices intended to conceal, mislead, or defraud consumers knowledge of due process of law, the judicial process and related evidentiary requirements to conduct compliance activities and assist in judicial and quasi-judicial hearings knowledge of inspection procedures and basic accounting principles and practices Problem-solving and organizational skills You can: handle complex and difficult issues, tense situations, and help settle disputes identify and examine areas of non-compliance, and support compliance efforts manage a heavy caseload effectively and prioritize work as needed to meet program requirements Research, analytical and evaluative skills You can: analyze and assess business documents (e.g., contracts, financial records, etc.), and other related documents to establish compliance determine consumer rights and business responsibilities under the required legislation assess reports, produce evidence for court and tribunal proceedings, give testimony, and undergo cross-examination Communication, technology and interpersonal skills You can: clearly and concisely provide information, assistance, and guidance to internal and external parties respect differing views and perspectives prepare, edit, and proofread various documents demonstrate experience with Microsoft Office 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) to create reports, affidavits, and correspondence, and manage inspection information Don''t meet every qualification?
