This role manages the kitchen''s daily operations to ensure the financial success of the entire culinary program, while maintaining high standards consistent with the cafe''s core values. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Guest Experience: Serve as the primary leader responsible for exceptional food quality and inspiring the culinary team Manage the kitchen''s daily operations to ensure the financial success of the entire culinary program Ensure guests have an outstanding food experience to foster repeat business Set the standard by demonstrating best practices and professional conduct for all staff Uphold and communicate The Vu''s brand, values, and service philosophy at all times Operations & Service Excellence: Maintain a physical presence on the line during service and provide support as necessary Ensure 100% compliance with standardized recipes for all items served Successfully execute all planned events and promotions Review daily sales and labor reports and implement immediate adjustments as needed Ensure the Back of House fully complies with food safety, health & safety, and WHMIS regulations Manage supplier orders, vendor relations, and daily invoice processing Team Development & Culture: Recruit, onboard, train, and develop team members Conduct daily shift briefings to align the team on priorities, sales goals, products, and events Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management Foster a supportive, respectful, and motivating workplace culture Create opportunities and initiatives that support morale, creativity, and engagement Financial & Administrative Management: Complete daily sales and labour reporting; actuals versus projections Reconcile cash, floats, and payments; report discrepancies as required Monitor voids, discounts, and promotions with clear documentation Manage beverage and front-of-house inventory, ordering, and cost controls Report waste and product loss, implementing strategies to reduce future costs Support scheduling and labour planning aligned with sales forecasts Supplier & Community Relationships: Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and vendors Manage ordering, invoicing, and product quality follow-ups Support menu development and seasonal beverage offerings Represent The Vu as a positive presence within the Dundas West community and creative scene Core Competencies Passion for Hospitality & Creativity Genuine care for guests, team, and community Leadership & Teamwork Inspires collaboration, accountability, and trust Organization & Time Management Effectively balances service, people, and administrative responsibilities Communication Clear, open, and respectful communication with guests, staff, and partners Problem Solving Calm, adaptable, and solutions-focused in a fast-paced environment Consistency & Integrity Fair, approachable, and dependable in actions and decisions Experience & Qualifications Minimum 3 years'' experience in a caf, retail, or quick-service environment Previous supervisory or management experience preferred Barista experience is considered an asset Strong working knowledge of POS systems, inventory tools, and basic reporting Food Safety Certification and WHMIS required Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks associated with cafe ops.
