Reporting to the Supervisor of Engineering and Maintenance, you will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and associated equipment. All duties will be carried out in accordance with provincial, municipal codes, departments, and hospital policies. Primary Responsibilities Operate automated or computerized control systems and stationary engines, including cogeneration plants, boiler plants, refrigeration plants, generators, pumps, compressors, and other equipment that provides light, heat, ventilation and refrigeration for the hospital buildings. Start up and shut down power plant equipment, control switching operations, regulate water levels, and communicate with systems operators to regulate and coordinate transmission loads, frequency and line voltages. Monitor and inspect plant equipment, computer terminals, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and fuel flow, detect leaks or malfunctions, and ensure equipment operates at maximum efficiency. Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunctions. Troubleshoot and perform corrective action and minor repairs to prevent equipment or system failure. Clean and lubricate generators, pumps and compressors and perform routine maintenance using appropriate lubricants and tools. Maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities and write reports on plant operation and non-compliance. Conduct regular rounds to check mechanical equipment and perform needed mechanical service. Ensure continuous efficiency of all mechanical equipment and related services and equipment. Respond to trouble calls or alarms from buildings during off hours and weekend shifts. Review computer printouts and alarms and take appropriate action. Coordinate and/or assist outside contractors. Housekeeping: painting, sweeping floors, cleaning piping, boilers and equipment. Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including equipment logs and work orders. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines (e.g., LOTO, arc flash, working at heights). Follow a schedule of preventative maintenance, which may be weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly depending on equipment.
