The primary purpose of this position is to providing leadership, direction and supervision to staff assigned to residential programs, ensure dignity and respect to all people supported based on values and outcomes important to each person on an individual basis. STATEMENT OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY The Residential Manager works under the general supervision of, and is accountable to, the Director of Support Programs. Major decisions and those involving policies are referred to the Director of Support Programs with a recommended solution. Work collaboratively with the entire Management Team to ensure effective coordination of all services offered by the agency. Participate in regular Management Team meetings, committee meetings, Strategic Planning, Special Project Planning, and other ad hoc committee meetings. Responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and directing Residential Services in accordance with existing legislation and MCCSS compliance, as well as Community Living Fort Erie established policies and procedures. Responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of assigned programs. Responsible for the follow-up of each residents Person Centered Plan and its implementation. Consult and discuss needs, goals, and direction with each resident, support staff, family, and other professionals, evaluating progress and providing ongoing feedback. Responsible for ensuring that the support deemed necessary by each resident is met and maintained, and that these supports encourage maximum independence and a valued social role. Continually evaluate the quality and effectiveness of all supports by implementing outcome-based performance measures. Assist support staff in providing ongoing evaluation of each person supporteds Person Centered Plan and Rights Restriction forms, ensuring the information is accurate, up to date, and works toward meeting the person supporteds personal goals and needs. Ensuring that all rights restrictions are documented as per the Person Centered Plan process and that restrictions are reviewed and discussed on a regular basis with the person supporteds direct support team, encouraging new strategies to be tried to promote the reduction and removal of restrictions. Rights restrictions should only be put in place as a last resort to ensure a person supporteds health and safety. Promote and ensure the agency Human Rights Statement and Commitment are followed when a person supported is unhappy with a restriction that is in place. Responsible for coordinating support staff hours to accommodate residents needs and activities. In conjunction with the Management Team, determine operational needs such as staffing levels, reviewing and redesigning business processes and working procedures, and authorizing staff transfers. Follow up on Management H&S inspections of all assigned locations on a monthly basis. Responsible for coaching effective teams, giving direction, suggestions, and feedback, and maintaining focus based on the people supporteds feedback regarding what they feel is important in their life. Hold team meetings on a monthly basis, using this opportunity to review in-house pressures, people supporteds Person Centered Plans, and any restrictions, while promoting independence and outcome measures. Supervise staff in residential homes, including participating in the selection, training and development, evaluation, discipline, and labour relations, including grievance handling. Participate in the development of policies and procedures in conjunction with the Management Team. Responsible for the review and completion of the End of Month Compliance Review. Regularly read through all in-house log books, personal books, house calendars, and other information to ensure the day-to-day running of the home is smooth and all residents needs are being met. Ensure all in-house documentation and person supported personal information are up to date and reviewed on a regular basis. Be knowledgeable and aware of agency policy on health and safety. Practice and promote these policies at all times with both people supported and fellow employees. Monitor and analyze expenditures within the allotted budget. Ensure home and vehicle repair and maintenance needs are reported promptly to the Property Manager and provide feedback regarding such reports to in-house staff. Coordinate with the Property Manager on the purchase of any furnishings, equipment, and other items for residential locations. Review and approve invoices and supply requests. Provide on-call supervisory support throughout residential services and other program areas. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Support Programs. HEALTH & SAFETY A Manager shall ensure that a worker: works in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by OHS Act and regulations uses or wears the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the workers employer requires to be used or worn advise a worker of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health and safety of the worker of which the supervisor is aware; where so prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the worker take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker Supervisors must be competent as defined by OHS e.g. competent person means a person who is qualified because of knowledge, training and experience to organize the work and its performance; is familiar with this Act and the regulations that apply to the work and; has knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Must have a strong belief in Community Living - Fort Erie philosophy and values, as well as a strong understanding of Personal Outcome Measures and of the agencys Human Rights Statement. Must have sound knowledge of agency policies, practices and health and safety requirements, Ministry requirements; the Collective Agreement and the Employment Standards and Labour Relations Act. The position requires administrative and management skills to oversee program expenditures and supervisory skills to lead, motivate and evaluate subordinate staff. QUALIFICATION CRITERIA This knowledge and training is normally acquired through a two or three year Community College program such as the Developmental Service Worker, with three to five years experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities and one or more years of experience in a supervisory role.
