Position Summary The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing new products, specifying materials, and selecting manufacturing processes for product development, in addition to providing technical support for existing products. This role involves performing engineering analysis and calculations, such as load and fit assessments, and taking components from concept to production while ensuring cost, quality, and manufacturability targets are met. In this role, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will act as the technical lead on assigned projects, providing technical direction, coordinating engineering activities, and supporting project execution from concept through production. This includes participating in project planning, managing technical risks, tracking deliverables, and supporting schedule and cost objectives in collaboration with cross-functional teams. A hands-on approach is required, including the assembly and testing of prototypes ranging from small components to large assemblies. This position is 100% on-site at our Brampton location. Essential Duties And Requirements Design mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks 3D CAD software, ensuring alignment with technical, quality, schedule, and cost requirements. Serve as technical lead for product development projects, providing engineering leadership, technical decision-making, and design oversight. Support project planning activities, including defining technical scope, estimating effort, identifying risks, and tracking engineering deliverables and milestones. Develop engineering solutions, including CAD models, 2D mechanical drawings, detailed documentation, and Bills of Materials for certification, manufacturing, installation, and service. Verify, validate, and develop designs throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept to volume production. Build and test prototypes for design verification, preparing test protocols and reports for product validation. Ensure compliance with local codes and global standards in product designs. Collaborate on global projects and work with multidisciplinary teams across Quality, Engineering, Production, Sales, and Marketing. Partner with manufacturing teams, external suppliers, and vendors to deliver cost-effective, high-performance technical solutions. Select components and materials to meet functional, aesthetic, and cost requirements, reviewing designs with vendors as required. Support production teams by troubleshooting assembly and fabrication challenges and resolving issues during onsite installations. Assist technical writers in developing comprehensive product documentation and support design transfer to manufacturing, including training activities. Develop innovative and aesthetic designs while maintaining cost competitiveness. Perform additional duties related to the scope and responsibility of the role as required. Mindset, Skills & Education Energetic and tenacious professional with a strong technical foundation in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years in industrial product or machinery development, with experience performing FEA on large assemblies. Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field, with extensive expertise in product development, mechanical design, and manufacturing engineering. Demonstrated experience leading technical aspects of projects, coordinating tasks across functions, and supporting schedule and cost objectives. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including castings, fabrication, machining, and sheet metal, with solid experience in design for manufacturing, assembly, installation, and service. Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD, combined with a practical, hands-on approach to engineering and prototyping. In-depth knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems, material science, and GD&T, including assembly drawings and tolerance stack-up analysis. Familiarity with certification and compliance processes, including experience with ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practices and ASME Y14.5M Dimensions and Tolerances. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and present technical information clearly. Proven problem-solver with strong troubleshooting skills in both development and production environments. Commitment to health and safety policies, quality, and efficient engineering practices. P.Eng. designation is preferred; material science expertise is considered an asset.
