SENIOR ACCOUNTANT / FINANCIAL ADVISOR Strategic Business Group Inc. The Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Accountant with Canadian public practice experience who can blend hands-on tax and compliance work with group-level financial leadership across multiple operating companies. This role is designed for a professional who enjoys working closely with ownership and leadership, managing complex tax and financial matters, and providing strategic guidance without the pressure of a traditional executive schedule. This position begins as a 3-month contract with a clear pathway to full-time permanent employment based on performance and mutual fit. What Youll Lead & Deliver: Accounting & Tax Leadership (Hands-On) Prepare and review T1, T2, T3, and T5 tax filings Oversee GST/HST compliance and CRA correspondence Review bookkeeping and reconciliations (QuickBooks Online) Prepare and review Notice to Reader (Compilation) financial statements using CaseWare Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting and tax standards across all entities Support proactive tax planning and regulatory risk management Strategic Finance & Advisory Act as a trusted financial advisor to ownership and executive leadership Review financial performance, cash flow, and profitability across business units Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning Develop and monitor KPIs and management reporting Identify risks, efficiencies, and growth opportunities across the group Multi-Entity Governance Ensure accounting consistency and internal controls across multiple companies Strengthen governance, reporting standards, and compliance frameworks Mentor internal accounting and admin staff (oversight, not day-to-day management) Support M&A, business launches, and strategic initiatives as required Must-Have Qualifications (Non-Negotiable) 23+ years of experience in a Canadian public accounting firm Strong working knowledge of Canadian tax and compliance (T1, T2, T3, T5, GST/HST) Professional designation: CMA, CA, CGA, or CPA Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, or MBA Hands-on experience with: CaseWare, QuickBooks Online, Profile Tax Software, & MS Excel Independent, reliable, and comfortable working with minimal supervision Values professionalism, flexibility, and a collaborative, no-drama culture Candidate Profile: Strategic Advisor Group-Level & Operational Thinker People-Centred Leadership Judgment & Integrity Executive Communicator Client & Relationship Focused Who This Role Is For: This role is ideal for a senior public practice accountant who enjoys: Owning complex tax and financial files end-to-end Advising business owners and leadership teams Working across multiple entities and business models Making a visible, strategic impact without corporate bureaucracy Work Structure & Compensation: Contract Start (3 Months) Full-Time Permanent Opportunity Location: In-office, Calgary Schedule: Flexible, mutually agreed hours Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and engagement level Environment: Professional, collaborative, and no-drama culture Why Join SBG: High-impact role with direct access to ownership and leadership Exposure to multiple industries and business models Strategic influence without executive burnout Stable, professional, and growth-focused organization Opportunity to shape financial systems, governance, and long-term success Work Arrangement Primarily in-office (Calgary) Hours and workload to be mutually agreed upon Reasonable accommodations available Apply: Submit your resume to : Qualified candidates will be contacted for a confidential discussion.
