Job Description

Reporting to the Chief People and Professional Practice. The Director of Professional Practice is responsible for leading transformative, collaborative nursing clinical practice and education across Health PEI. This role integrates Health PEIs quality, education, research and health human resource priorities with practice to drive an exceptional patient care experience. The Director of Professional Practice is accountable for understanding, analyzing and developing strategies for improving the quality of nursing clinical practice, education and for establishing standards of practice across interprofessional teams within Health PEI programs and services. The Director will serve as the liaison with internal and external partners to enhance the patient experience while improving quality, practice and patient outcomes. Duties: Lead the development, in collaboration with staff, the goals and objectives of the division, consistent with the organizations vision, mission and strategic plan. Direct staff; arrange orientation and training; assign workloads; develop staff competencies; monitor quality and quantity of work. Direct standardization, alignment and integration of professional practice, quality and patient safety policy and culture among multiple locations, divisions and program/services related within Health PEI. Lead the development and implementation of a Health PEI Professional Practice Framework/Plan, including developing and implementing relevant education/training and policies for Health PEI staff Present high quality advice, support, recommendations, and information to the Health PEI Board, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) pertaining to system policy and strategy direction, effective and efficient stakeholder engagement, decision making and prioritization processes, and effective and efficient processes to manage, monitor and report on system performance and results. Work collaboratively with all staff to facilitate and create consistent inter-professional care practices to support the delivery of quality person and family centered care Direct and oversee the development of a plan/strategy to bring all nursing care professionals to full scope according to the standards and guidelines of the regulatory colleges, evidence-informed best practices, and the principles established to guide healthcare delivery within Health PEIs programs and services Lead a team focused on identifying and supporting strategic practice opportunities, which align with the organizations vision, mission and values; Liaise with the Department of Health and Wellness, other government departments, community agencies, and other Atlantic Health Authorities. Seek opportunities for enhanced partnerships to leverage the work of the division. Utilize LEADS philosophy in daily interactions and work output; Establish conditions that support a healthy workplace, optimal performance and development of staff through performance management, human resource planning, creation of positive learning environments and planning for change Improve team performance through the clarification of division mandate, team members roles and responsibilities. Provide supervision to 20+ staff working from several sites across the Island. Collaborates and monitors the strategic planning, monitoring, and implementation of Health PEIs accreditation process. Collaborates and monitors the development and implementation of a Health PEI Quality and Patient Safety Plan, including developing and implementing relevant education/training on quality and safety theory for Health PEI staff Oversee and administer the divisional budget and expenditures, prioritize needs and effectively manage resources to operate within budget Complete submissions to the annual Management Plan including business proposals. Complete quarterly budgetary forecasts in collaboration with assigned fiscal analyst. Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a bachelors degree in nursing is required. Masters degree required in one of the following fields: in nursing, quality improvement, health leadership or business administration. Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island; Considerable management/leadership experience and training in a health-related setting is required. Experience and knowledge with Accreditation Canada standards/requirements/processes is required. Considerable experience in policy development, program planning, and strategic or operational planning. Considerable experience in Continuous Quality Improvement including quality improvement activities and experience managing organizational risk is required. Requires exceptional interpersonal, facilitation, collaboration, organizational, conflict management, and leadership skills. Knowledge of college standards for allied health professionals and nursing is required. Knowledge of best practices, quality and outcome measures for nursing is required. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required. Knowledge of adult learning principles is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills is required. Must be able to demonstrate experience of working in a results-based environment, where accountability for outcomes was a key responsibility. Demonstrated proficiency with typical business software applications, specifically Oracle PeopleSoft, as well as Office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, etc. Valid drivers license and access or access to reliable transportation Other Qualifications: Budgetary planning and management experience will be considered an asset ; CNA certification is an asset; Certified Health Executive is an asset; Certification/training in quality improvement, change management, risk management, patient safety or project management would be considered an asset. Salary Range: $54.99 - $67.90 per hour (Level 24 Excluded) Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 Hours Bi-Weekly / Monday- Friday, With Possible Evenings and Weekends.
