Position Summary Stella-Jones is seeking a hands-on Health & Safety Advisor to support day-to-day safety activities at one of our operational sites. This role is embedded in the operation and works closely with plant leadership, employees, and contractors to promote a strong safety culture through visibility, collaboration, and practical solutions. This is a true business-partner role focused on coaching, supporting, and enabling safe work practices rather than policing. You will play a key role in developing site-level procedures, strengthening programs, and helping the operation grow safely as the business continues to expand. Key Responsibilities Site Oversight & Engagement Maintain a strong on-site presence and serve as a key point of contact for health and safety. Conduct regular yard and plant inspections, safety walkthroughs, and audits. Perform spot checks of Powered Industrial Equipment (PIE) operations and PPE compliance. Proactively engage in operational activities that may impact health and safety. Programs, Procedures & Documentation Develop, review, and maintain Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs. Support site-level procedure development by breaking down tasks, identifying hazards, and recommending controls. Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), site safety manuals, and health & safety communication boards. Manage PPE inventory and ordering. Training, Coaching & Committees Deliver new hire safety orientations and required training. Support contractor onboarding and monitor compliance with safety standards. Co-chair Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings and facilitate safety discussions. Coach leaders and employees to integrate safety into daily operations. Incident & Emergency Management Coordinate and document emergency drills. Lead incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions. Support injury claim management, return-to-work planning, and Workers Compensation follow-up. Compliance & Continuous Improvement Monitor provincial health and safety legislation and ensure ongoing site compliance. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs. Participate in professional development, safety training, and internal initiatives. Qualifications Education & Certifications Post-secondary education in Health & Safety, or a combination of education and experience. CRSP, CHSC, or similar designation (preferred). Additional certifications such as First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, or Train-the-Trainer are considered assets. Valid drivers license. Experience Minimum 35 years of health and safety experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment. Experience working in unionized environments is an asset. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of provincial and federal occupational health and safety legislation. Proven ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement controls. Experience leading incident investigations and root cause analysis. Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel skills required); familiarity with safety management systems is an asset. Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
