The program is intended to improve literacy and numeracy skills while intentionally fostering students' self-confidence, resilience, and well-being. The goal of the program is to provide valuable experiences supporting students' successful transition to Grade 8 and/or St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School. Students who successfully complete the Gr. 8 program will earn the Grade 9 Learning Strategies credit. Programs will be offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings with some Saturday sessions.Effective February 2026 until April 2026 (Grade 7) and May 2026 (Grade 8) with the possibility of extensionRequirements:Basic qualifications to teach in the Intermediate DivisionExperience teaching in the Intermediate DivisionA thorough understanding of the Ontario Language and Mathematics Curriculum and effective strategies to facilitate literacy and numeracy developmentKnowledge and understanding of effective literacy and mathematics instructional and assessment strategiesKnowledge and experience in utilizing student learning management systems such as Google Classroom as well as additional G-Suite digital tools and EDSBY to support effective communication with parentsA commitment to supporting the use of technology in instruction and learning, and to promoting an environment of innovation and creativity that engages the 21st century learnerProven ability to implement effective classroom management strategiesProven ability to provide differentiated instructional strategies and in programming for students as a means of reducing gaps in student outcomesA repertoire of differentiating an array of instructional and assessment strategies appropriate for specific learner needsDemonstrated experience in facilitating innovative and creative instruction and learning environments with students using a variety of strategies and technologiesExcellent communication and organizational skills, an approachable style and high degree of initiativeQualifications in Special Education would be considered an assetFSL Part 1 (pending enrolment, one group may be instructed in French)Qualified applicants who wish to be considered for this position are asked to apply via Apply To Education posting number 4007457.Applications will be received via Apply To Education until 4:30PM on February 5, 2026Shawn Fitzsimmons, Chair Paula Mann, Director of EducationThe Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is committed to diversity and inclusion.
