Position Purpose:Reporting to the Utilities Supervisor, this rotating shift position is responsible for the daily inspection, maintenance, repair and installation of electrical HVACR equipment, pumps & motors, site & exhibit lighting, emergency lighting and generators. This position is also responsible for assisting and providing support in implementing the Strategic Plan. Core Role Responsibilities: An employee in this classification is required to perform duties consisting of, but not restricted to the following: Preventative maintenance, service, installation & repair of electrical heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, back-up generators, pumps, motors, fans, misc. equipment and all electrical associated components, accessories, controls, and operating systems. Maintain lighting requirements including emergency lights, exhibit, greenhouse, and tank lighting. Calibrating of electrical controls, troubleshooting HVACR systems and associated components. Prepares material list if requested for projects or work orders. Advises other units regarding requested installations or repairs. Performs all duties in compliance with municipal, provincial or federal requirements and within standards set by Toronto Zoo. Required to work shifts, holidays and weekends as scheduled. Other related duties as requested by the Supervisor. Reports to the supervisor the absence of or any defect in any equipment or protective device that they are aware of and which may endanger themselves or another staff member. Reports to supervisor any contravention of the Ontario Health & Safety Act. Ensures all accidents and hazards are reported to supervisor immediately. Work in a safe manner at all times in compliance with Health & Safety, WHMIS and Toronto Zoo policies and procedures. Follows all branch instructions. Attends appropriate training courses as assigned. Ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire. Technical Knowledge and Skills: Must possess an active 309A Journeyperson trade license valid in the Province of Ontario. Experienced in all aspects of the Electrical trade including heating/cooling equipment and motor & control systems. Must have a minimum of five (5) or more years'' proven experience. Must be able to read architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and schematic drawings. Must be able to read, understand and utilize technical manuals. Working knowledge of the Ontario Building code and Electrical code and all other code & regulations affecting their work. Must have, or attain, Working at Heights, Fall Arrest and Elevated Work Platforms Certificates. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job. Must possess an unrestricted Class G driver''s license valid in the Province of Ontario along with a good driving record. Must have working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHMIS) legislation, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Toronto Zoo Safety Policy.
