Oriole Landscaping - Lead Hand & Driver Location: Toronto Reports To: Crew Leader Oriole Landscaping is a midtown Toronto design/build firm that focuses on highend residential installations. Oriole has been working diligently for over 38 years in the industry and continues to refine its business culture, landscape construction and horticultural maintenance processes. Job Summary The landscape construction crew leader will perform tasks including reading plans and job packages, site staging, ordering materials, coordinating subtrades, directing and training staff on job site tasks, communicating and working with the project manager and the client. The crew leader will complete heavy landscape construction, site demolitions & excavations, hard & soft installations and project budget reviews. Job Duties Comply with Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations (see OHSA S. 27: Duties of Supervisor). Review construction sites to identify and eliminate potential hazards. Ensure all required PPE and safety equipment is used by crew members. Perform job site safety inspections and toolbox talks. Train crew members to improve craftsmanship in horticulture, hardscapes, softscapes, carpentry, masonry, equipment operation & maintenance. Train crew members on optimal workflow to maximize efficiency and productivity. Complete performance reviews with lead hand/driver and laborers. Complete daily progress reports and meetings on site with project manager. Drive a 5ton or larger truck with trailer. Be attentive to CBYD (Call Before You Dig) locate reports. Serve as craftsperson onsite as required. Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Drivers License. 10 years or more landscape construction experience. Proficient at reading drawings, details, and following job packages. Experience operating excavator, skid steer, articulated loader. Attention to detail: careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks. Dependability: reliable, responsible and dependable in fulfilling obligations. Stress tolerance: maintaining composure and dealing calmly and effectively in highstress situations. Communication: daily reports using a smartphone and clear communication skills for articulating information to the operations manager, logistics driver & project manager. Organization: excellent organization skills and ability to complete projects within given deadlines. Training: experienced at working with and training staff on job skills. Working Conditions This is a fulltime, seasonal position with the opportunity for a nonseasonal position should it become available. Employees will be working outdoors in all types of weather. The workday starts at 7:00 am on site and 6:30 am in the yard. The hours will range from 45 to 55 per week, Monday to Friday and optional Saturdays. The company works to provide long weekends off for all employees. This position requires an elevated level of personal organization and motivation, and social intelligence. It is highly physical in nature and requires the applicant to be able to lift weights of up to 50 lbs and includes frequent repetitive tasks. It also requires the applicant to have experience driving trucks with trailers and operating excavators and skid steers. Salary Range Varies from $28 to $33 per hour depending on skill set and experience.
