Find our story here:About Meridian As a Senior Financial Reporting Specialist: You will be a technical specialist that is accountable for the financial reporting of various items in Meridian Credit Union (''Meridian'') and its subsidiaries includingMeridian OneCap Credit Corp (''OneCap''). This will include; Completing components of the monthly and annual financial and regulatory reporting processes for Meridian and its subsidiaries; Assisting in the maintenance of the Meridian its subsidiaries General Ledger (''GL'') and reporting integrity, including the internal control environment, over assigned accounting transactions including but not limited to the areas of provision for credit losses and financial instruments; Providing ongoing development and maintenance of Financial Reporting processes and procedures for Meridian and its subsidiaries; and Supporting the Financial Reporting team in meeting their objectives, recognizing that these objectives align and support the strategic objectives of the broader Financial Reporting team, Meridian''s Finance team and Meridian as a whole. What you will do: Financial Reporting Complete assigned components of the month-end process including, the preparation and posting of journal entries, monthly schedules and reconciliations. Perform monthly intercompany loan balancing, interest calculations, management fee postings and consolidation elimination entries for all subsidiaries, and complete related reconciliations. Maintain the accounts receivable listing and post all related entries Assist in the preparation of the monthly variance analysis, including explanations on changes month to month and differences to plan, which is provided to senior management. Prepare assigned components of the interim and year-end audit, including working papers and note disclosure information for the Audited Financial Statements and act as a contact for external auditors during the interim and year-end audits. External Filings Prepare quarterly unaudited financial statements for Meridian and Motus and its subsidiaries for distribution to external parties. Prepare assigned Board and Committee Reports on a periodic basis. Prepare other ad hoc reports such as Statistics Canada Surveys. Initiatives Represent the broader Financial Reporting team as a key project resource and subject matter expert on cross-functional projects. Determine Financial Reporting impacts and implement required Financial Reporting integration for assigned areas relating to mergers and acquisitions activity. Assist the Senior Accounting Policy and Reporting Specialist in the design of new models or modification of existing models to address changes made to accounting policies. Work with the Accounting Policy team in the transition of new accounting policies, processes and procedures into run-rate workflow. Finance System Administration Maintain the General Ledger account and cost centre structure. Build, customize, and maintain NetSuite Financial Reports, Saved Searches, and dashboards. Design and maintain consolidated, subsidiarylevel, and segmentbased reports. Assigning roles, permissions, and managing user access. Maintaining system configurations including chart of accounts, periods, accounting preferences, and form customizations. Managing workflows, approval routing, and system controls. Maintaining existing integrations, troubleshooting integration failures and coordinating with vendors or internal IT. Identify, analyze, and resolve NetSuite system issues quickly. Act as a primary contact point for employees throughout Meridian and its subsidiaries relative to general ledger and NetSuite related inquires, and policies. Other Duties Maintain awareness of all accountabilities of the Financial Reporting team in order to field daily questions and address problems that may arise, both internally and from other business units. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for identified financial and regulatory reporting processes within Meridian and Motus, including the documentation of key process controls. Identify deficiencies in internal controls, procedures and policies and make recommendations for solutions. Responsible for disseminating changes to Financial Reporting policies and procedures throughout the organization or clarifying the existing ones when necessary. Engage in on-going process improvement. Provide support and back up to the other Senior Financial Reporting Specialists, including coaching of intermediate team members. Perform other duties as required. How you will succeed: University or College degree required in Finance & Accounting, or equivalent; working towards or completed Chartered Professional Accountant designation is an asset. 4+ years of experience in a financial reporting environment is required. Experience within a financial institution is desirable. Technical and practical knowledge of IFRS. Current or previous experience with Netsuite or similar financial accounting software. Strong spreadsheet proficiency and familiarity with data query/analysis tools. Understanding of financial modelling techniques. Excellent attention to detail. Strong analytical skills and experience completing reconciliations. Proven problem-solving abilities and the ability to implement solutions at an operational level. Ability to multi-task, quickly prioritize and resolve critical issues as they arise. Strong written and oral communication skills. Commitment to the organization by actively supporting the values and demonstrating alignment with the goals of the organization. This role represents an existing vacancy. Salary Range: CAD $80,000 $95,000 annually Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity.
