The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic Department: Public Works Status: Full-time, Permanent Salary: $84, ,066.72 per annum, 40 hour/week Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum Union Status: Unionized Housing: No Subsidized Staff Housing Closing Date: Open Until Filled This employment opportunity is open to all applicants. Reporting to the Service Advisor/Garage Foreman, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic carries out a variety of maintenance duties, repairs and overhaul of municipal vehicles and equipment. In addition, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining shop equipment and tools, completing detailed work orders and records, providing mechanical advice to shop helper(s) and instructing/training apprentices. This position requires occasional overtime, necessary due to operational requirements. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Interprovincial (Red Seal) and/or Nunavut Heavy Duty Mechanic certification Class 3 License with Airbrake Endorsement Four years'' experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy trucks, equipment and automotive including fuel injection Working knowledge of mechanical trades Experience with welding and body work Precise organizational skills for records and inventory Skilled driving abilities to operate heavy equipment when necessary Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting Assets include the ability to speak and write in both English and Inuktitut, and northern experience. Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered. Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate and/or Red Seal and Driver''s License are required at time of application.
