Overview Your Opportunity: As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will work as a front-line healthcare provider in EHS Operations. A successful applicant may work throughout the Edmonton area and in a variety of roles such as front-line ambulance work. The successful applicant will conduct themselves respectfully with members of the public, colleagues and allied services. The ability to follow direction is considered a key strength. Responsibilities Assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. Treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. Lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. Assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. Work environment is demanding and may include exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial or agricultural equipment; travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and bodily fluids. Physically demanding duties including frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs, frequent kneeling and trunk flexion, standing and sitting for extended periods, bending, twisting, side-carrying up to 20 lbs in each hand, and assuming awkward positions. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) certification. Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent and a five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work. Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via Lifemark (for those not already in a clinical position within AHS EMS). The F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark. Preferred Qualifications: Preference is given to candidates with previous EHS experience in metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environments and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is considered an asset and will be considered during the selection process.
