Our client is a well-established and growing Canadian transportation and logistics provider specializing in regional freight distribution. With decades of operational experience, a strong reputation for reliability, and an extensive terminal network, the company delivers time-sensitive LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) and supply chain solutions to businesses across Western Canada. They are looking for a driven, resilient, and hands-on Terminal Manager to lead their busiest and most strategically important terminal, which is located in Surrey, BC. This operation is fast-paced, complex, and central to their network, and they need a leader who brings clarity, confidence, and energy to every shift. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in dynamic environments, excels in unionized settings, and knows how to rally teams around big goals. Responsibilities Operational Leadership Lead all terminal functions: dock operations, yard management, routing, dispatching, freight flow, and equipment utilization. Develop short- and long-term plans aligned with corporate goals. Monitor KPIs; productivity, service, damages, turnaround times and drive continuous improvement. Lead confidently through peak seasons, disruptions, and high-pressure situations. Apply deep knowledge of LTL freight handling, cross-docking, routing, loading patterns, and shipment flow. Review manifests, load plans, driver logs, and trailer metrics daily to resolve issues and keep operations compliant and efficient. Anticipate bottlenecks, volume changes, and network impacts before they occur. Safety & Compliance Ensure full compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations. Champion a strong safety culture, with consistent use of procedures and PPE. Maintain up-to-date documentation, SOPs, and regulatory requirements. People Leadership & Labor Relations Lead a diverse team of managers, supervisors, dispatchers, and frontline employees. Coach, mentor, and develop talent while promoting accountability and engagement. Maintain strong labor relations: navigate grievances, contract language, and disciplinary processes collaboratively. Foster open communication and a positive, respectful team environment. Build strong relationships with key accounts and respond quickly to service issues. Identify root causes and deliver long-term solutions. Manage terminal budgets including labor, maintenance, and consumables. Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency without sacrificing safety or service. Qualifications Required 5+ years of labor relations experience in a unionized environment. 6+ years of management experience, including 5+ leading managers/supervisors. Strong LTL freight operations knowledge. Proven ability to lead, delegate, and drive performance in fast-paced environments. Experience coaching, training, and developing employees. High emotional intelligence, resilience, and strong execution skills. Preferred Experience leading through peak volumes and operational disruptions. Strong analytical and decision-making abilities using KPIs and data. Track record of developing high-performing teams. Assets Experience with terminal management systems, AS400, or similar software. Exposure to cross-functional or corporate-level initiatives. Knowledge of lean or continuous improvement practices. Compensation $90,000-120,000 annual base salary (negotiable depending on experience) A new performance-based bonus structure is currently being developed. Car allowance + fuel card.
