Job Summary The Varley Art Gallery of Markham is seeking a friendly, energetic, and creative individual looking to gain experience working in a gallery and studio setting. Under the primary supervision of the Public Programs Coordinator, the Camp Counsellor will assist in the facilitation of art programs while supervising children between 4 and 12 years old. Key Duties and Responsibilities Assists in the delivery of camp activities including games, tours, and camp-wide projects in the gallery, art studios and outdoors (weather permitting). Prioritizes child well-being, safety and protection throughout the camp(s). Evaluates situations for potential risks to the safety, protection and well-being of campers and staff, proactively taking mitigating actions to address such risks. Maintains camp documentation, including registration information, attendance records, sign-in and sign-out procedures, permission forms, waiver forms, and timesheets. First point of contact for parents and guardians; provides excellent customer service. Organizes and facilitates games with campers during breaks; supervises children during lunch and snacks. Under the guidance of the Art Instructor, adapts art materials and activities to camper needs with regard to safety, hygiene, weather, breaks, etc., to ensure quality of programming for all campers. Completes all mandatory trainings. Demonstrates the confidence and ability to make decisions in the best interests of the campers. Resolves problems and conflicts among camp participants effectively as they arise. Reports all incidents promptly and thoroughly to the Camp Director. Maintains studio cleanliness and organizes art supplies. Other duties as required. Required Skills & Competencies Passion for visual arts, education, arts administration, early childhood education or art history is an asset. Experience working with children, knowledge of child development, and experience in a gallery setting is an asset. Leadership capacity is required (e.g., student council member, leadership role on youth council, previous experience as a camp counsellor/junior camp counsellor/volunteer). Previous camp experience is an asset. Current Standard First Aid with CPR ''C'' is required. Possession of a HIGH FIVE Healthy Child Development certificate. Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening to ensure a safe and secure environment for all participants. Must be available to work on the following days: Monday, March 16 to March 20 , 8 AM to 5 PM .
