OverviewWe are currently looking for paid volunteers- Diabetes Care Technician (DCT)We are committed to supporting CHEO to help children with diabetes manage their medical, nutritional, and psychosocial needs to empower them to live their best lives.The Diabetes Support Technician provides in-person, at school, insulin administration and/or diabetes support, in collaboration with a virtual nurse and an SE Diabetes Care School Program Facilitator.1 hour per day onlyResponsibilitiesReceives education specific to child development, interpersonal communication, diabetes, emergency management, insulin administration and insulin pumps, in addition to child-specific trainingProvides in-person, at school, insulin injection and/or diabetes care, as per the Individual Care Plan, with the guidance and oversight of a virtual nurseAttend program huddles with hospital care team, as requiredWorks collaboratively with the care team, including the child and family, as well as the school staff and leadershipEscalates any risks or identified issues, as appropriateMaintains and submits accurate client records, as requiredUses communication tools to effectively communicate with members of the teamParticipate in program evaluation and process improvementRequirementsA current CPR certificate is requiredAn interest in supporting children with diabetesAbility to communicate effectively (verbal/written) and exercise good judgment is requiredAbility to lift up to 25 kilograms may be requiredAbility to perform lifting and bending in awkward positions when assisting clients may be requiredAccess to own transportation is requiredAbout SE HealthAt SE, we love what we do.
