Sets up, operates and maintains the high speed/volume photocopier to support the production of materials for city divisions. Sets up and operates bindery machines and other equipment to drill, cut, round corners, punch, staple, cerlox and heat bind printed materials. Sets up and operates hydraulic guillotine to cut stock from reams by calculating sequence of cuts and required size before and after printing. Sets up and operates high-speed right-angle folder to perforate, score, slit and fold. Sets up, maintains and operates saddlestitching equipment to create books. Counts and bands printed material. Operates collator to collate, stitch and fold printed material. Makes pads by backboarding specified number of sheets, cutting and painting with glue. Checks pages and assembles into book form for divisions. Maintains, lubricates, makes repairs and adjustments to machinery. Removes and installs guillotine blades. Parcels completed jobs by operating Banding machine, packaging completed materials for shipping into boxes or pallets for pickup by couriers. Completes packing slips and processes for delivery, including coordinating external couriers with the Metro Hall courier desk as required. Uses and performs daily checks on hydraulic lift truck to relocate paper/materials. Verifies incoming and outgoing materials and directs products to appropriate locations, confirming delivery information, and communicating with clients and informing them of the delivery status of their work. Manually lifts boxes of material for receiving and shipping. Follows all safety requirements pertaining to the position and business unit, including maintaining the shipping/loading and prep area. Enters time spent on projects in docket and electronic tracking system. Key Qualifications Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to: Experience performing book binding functions in a production environment. Experience in the operation of a large format folder with double right angles. Experience in the operation of a programmable hydraulic large format guillotine (paper cutter) using a loader, jogger and an unloader/stacker. Demonstrated experience in operating a Collator and Muller Martini 6 pocket saddlestitcher. Experience handling and jogging large size press sheets (19' x 25' and up). Experience communicating with clients and coordinating the distribution of printed materials to multiple locations. You must also have Knowledge of set up procedures for various folders to produce different signature forms. Knowledge of imposition page layout to facilitate in the production of various printed materials. Ability to perform minor maintenance and repairs to equipment. Knowledge of paper types including various grains and weights. Ability to operate various equipment such as banding machines, laminators, binding machines, stitchers, paper drills and punches necessary in the operation of a reproduction/distribution service. Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work. An ability to work independently while adhering to all safety requirements pertaining to the position and unit.
