Description The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Microbiome Research Associate. This Fulltime Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on grant funding) with the possibility of extension. Reporting to the Principal Investigator. Summary of Key Responsibilities Perform cuttingedge microbiome research, especially but not limited to gnotobiotics, utilizing both invitro and invivo experimental approaches. Work with the Principal Investigator to design experiments aimed at elucidating the mechanisms by which the microbiome modulates host function, especially pertaining to immune function. Perform indepth analysis of microbiome data and provide documentation of data for presentations and publications. Assist in the publication of microbiome research. Develop new applications and standard procedures and support training of researchers in gnotobiology and microbiome research. Assist the Principal Investigator in writing and implementing animal protocols. Assist the Principal Investigator in obtaining highlevel funding for research activities. Develop operating procedures, safety protocols, and make recommendations on workflow improvements. Responsible for reliable and safe operation of equipment used in gnotobiotic and microbiome research, including troubleshooting problems. Qualifications / Requirements PhD Degree in Biological Sciences (e.g., Immunology, Microbiology, Oncology, or related field). Minimum 5 years of postdoctoral research experience in microbiome research, with specific expertise performing invivo gnotobiotic research essential. Theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiome research is required. Demonstrable troubleshooting skills required. Knowledge and demonstrated performance in detailed design, documentation, and implementation of highly complex technological systems in microbiome research following ethical standards. Knowledge and proven ability to effectively collaborate with researchers while providing expertise in microbiome research. Demonstrated communication, organization, innovation, and interpersonal skills including interactions with multiple stakeholders. Advanced or expert skills in MS Office Suite, Internet. A positive attitude, selfmotivated and the ability to work independently and as part of the team. WHMIS certification.
