OverviewOntario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN). The successful incumbent will work with an interprofessional care team to provide assessment, stabilization and treatment services for patients with schizophrenia and other complex mental illnesses using a recoveryfocused model of care built upon compassion, inspiration and hope. The incumbent will engage in a leadership role and be an active and equal member of the interprofessional team, with duties including Charge Nurse responsibilities. The position may provide an opportunity to apply to the Patient Care Facilitator role. The assignment is to work in our Complex General Psychiatry D Unit, under the Assessment and Reintegration Program, where patients, family, staff and community agencies work together to provide shortterm crisis intervention, stabilization and treatment. Please note: while the vacancy is posted for the new Assessment and Reintegration Program unit, all Registered Nurses must have the ability to work in any area of the Centre as patient needs dictate. RPNs (or RNs) may alternate working on the general unit and in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Area (PICA). Responsibilities Provide assessment, stabilization and treatment services for patients with schizophrenia and other complex mental illnesses. Collaborate with an interprofessional care team in a recoveryfocused model of care. Demonstrate leadership within the team and perform Charge Nurse responsibilities. Potentially apply to the Patient Care Facilitator role as opportunities arise. Work in the Complex General Psychiatry D Unit under the Assessment and Reintegration Program. Be flexible to work in any area of the Centre as patient needs dictate. Alternate assignments for RPNs/RNs between the general unit and PICA as required. Qualifications Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Current CPR Health Care Provider (HCP). Knowledge of CNO Standards of Practice and commitment to reflective practice per the CNO. Knowledge of Canadian Standards for PsychiatricMental Health Nursing and relevant policies/legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, PHIPA). Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with performance in nurse facilitator/care coordinator roles, case management and clinical assessment/intervention and documentation of care. Recent psychiatric nursing and/or senior experience in a mental health facility, longterm care facility or service. Working knowledge/experience with computers. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to provide leadership and preceptorship. Strong organizational, problemsolving, decisionmaking, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills. Ability to perform the physical demands of the position and maintain good attendance. Willingness to work shifts; BScN preferred. Encouraged to complete CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health and/or Gerontological Nursing within five years of hire. CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing is an asset. Meditech experience preferred. Experience with patients with acquired brain injury or brain disorders (Axis I and II) is an asset.
