Our team of health care professionals is focused on providing specialised Emergency care and urgent treatments in a community hospital setting. The Mental Health Nurse is a leader in the Emergency Department as part of our Mental Health team and provides a wide variety of nursing care to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and wellbeing. In your role, you will utilise nursing processes through critical thinking, problemsolving and decisionmaking, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families to make a positive difference toward their health and wellbeing. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and familycentred care with attention to promoting a positive patient experience to those we serve in the Emergency Department all while practising and rolemodelling our Covenant values of Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Stewardship, and Social Justice. Description The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. If you have not practised as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses are also required: CRNA Medication Administration Certificate NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification Additional Required Qualifications Recent psychiatric inpatient experience (within the last 2 years) OR two years fulltime minimum outpatient/community mental health experience. Excellent assessment and organisational skills required. Expert application of complex mentalhealth assessment tools and suicidality screening tools required. Excellent knowledge and understanding of psychiatric illness, psychotropic medications, DSMV and the Mental Health Act required. Preferred Qualifications Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in a highvolume, urban emergency department. Experience with Connect Care EHR asset; Emergency Connect Care ASAP preferred.
