Job Description

Herzing College is seeking a qualified and experienced Accounting and Payroll professional to join our faculty team as an Instructor in the Business Administration Accounting and Payroll program. This position is well suited to an individual with strong industry experience who is committed to applied learning and the preparation of students for accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll-related roles. Position Summary The Instructor is responsible for delivering curriculum aligned with current accounting standards, payroll legislation, and business practices. Instruction is delivered through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning, with an emphasis on practical application, software-based accounting, regulatory compliance, and professional communication. Required Qualifications and Experience Applicants must demonstrate the following: A minimum of five (5) years of recent professional experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or a closely related business environment. Demonstrated knowledge of manual and computerized accounting practices, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting. Practical experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or comparable industry-standard platforms. Working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including CPP, EI, income tax, and payroll compliance requirements. A high degree of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality and ethical financial practice. Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for instructional delivery, technical explanation, and student feedback. Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet firm academic deadlines. Preferred Assets Professional designation or progress toward certification (e.g., CPA, PCP, PLP, or equivalent). Previous teaching, training, or mentoring experience, particularly with adult learners. Experience delivering instruction in an online or blended learning environment. Familiarity with a Learning Management System (Moodle preferred). Experience teaching or applying payroll compliance legislation, spreadsheets, or computerized accounting systems in a professional setting. Instructional Responsibilities Prepare and deliver course content aligned with the Business Administration Accounting and Payroll curriculum, including accounting fundamentals, advanced accounting, spreadsheets, computerized accounting, payroll compliance legislation, and business communications. Facilitate weekly live sessions, provide formative and summative feedback, and evaluate student work in accordance with course learning outcomes. Support student engagement through applied exercises, case studies, software-based activities, and one-on-one academic support as required. Maintain accurate academic records and comply with institutional policies and instructional standards.
