Position Summary The Directional Driller is responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing wellbore trajectories to safely and efficiently reach target objectives. This role works closely with drilling rig crews, company representatives, MWD personnel, and engineering teams to ensure wells are drilled accurately, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. This is a field-based contract position supporting directional drilling operations across key Canadian oil and gas plays. Key Responsibilities Plan and execute directional drilling operations to achieve well objectives safely and efficiently Monitor and optimize wellbore trajectory, tool performance, and drilling parameters in real time Collaborate with rig personnel, client representatives, MWD teams, and engineering support Provide accurate survey calculations, reporting, and directional guidance Support BHA design recommendations, including motor and/or RSS applications Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, regulations, and company procedures Troubleshoot downhole challenges such as torque & drag, hole cleaning, and wellbore stability issues Deliver clear communication and timely decision-making in fast-paced field environments Required Qualifications & Experience Minimum 35 years of directional drilling experience in field operations Strong working knowledge of conventional motor systems and/or Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS) Experience drilling horizontal and extended-reach well profiles Solid understanding of: BHA design Hole cleaning practices Torque & drag analysis Wellbore stability principles Proficiency with directional drilling software and survey management systems Ability to work rotational schedules and remote field locations Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Preferred Regional Expertise Thorough knowledge of major Canadian oil and gas plays, including: Montney Duvernay Clearwater Multi-Lateral developments Heavy Oil operations Viking Bakken Competitive salary, commensurate with experience. The Directional Driller role is open to both contractors and full-time employees, based on experience level and mutual agreement. Day rate range is 1,000-1,200 DOE.
