The role ensures HR practices align with the organization's mission, values, and legal requirements while actively supporting the CEO in executing HR operations. The director also contributes to fundraising efforts through direct giving or leveraging connections.Key ResponsibilitiesChair the HR Committee and lead efforts to align HR policies with nonprofit best practices.Provide guidance on HR policies, compliance, volunteer management, and legal requirements.Collaborate with the CEO to refine HR strategies and support volunteer engagement.Ensure HR structures are scalable, inclusive, and support the charity's sustainability.Operational HR & Volunteer Engagement SupportAssist in developing HR workflows, volunteer recruitment strategies, and onboarding processes.Work with the CEO to identify key HR needs and provide handson support.Facilitate HR bestpractice training for board members and volunteers.Support the HR team with urgent priorities, helping resolve recruitment, retention, and conflict challenges.Strengthen volunteer engagement strategies, ensuring a fulfilling experience for volunteers.Collaboration & Role BoundariesAct as an advisory resource, offering strategic input without overriding the CEO's authority in HR execution.Do not directly instruct or manage volunteer HR coordinators; ensure they have the policies and resources needed.Coordinate with the CEO before making major recommendations related to HR operations or volunteer engagement.Policy & Process DevelopmentReview and refine HR policies to ensure compliance and efficiency in volunteer management.Develop strategies for improving volunteer retention and recognition.Ensure governance practices align with legal requirements and nonprofit best practices.Assist in developing conflictresolution policies and volunteer satisfaction measures.Fundraising & Sustainability CommitmentAs a board member, the Director supports financial sustainability by contributing to fundraising efforts in alignment with their skills and networks, including financial contributions, identifying funding opportunities, building donor relationships, and assisting with fundraising initiatives.Time Commitment & ExpectationsTerm: Minimum 3year term, with option for renewal.Monthly & Annual Commitment: At least 8 hours per month for meetings, strategic consultations, and advisory support.Board Meetings: Attend at least 4 of 6 virtual meetings per year; additional strategic sessions as needed.Active Engagement: Remain actively involved with strategic planning and oversight, without daytoday operations.What We're Looking ForHR Expertise: Strong understanding of HR compliance, policies, and governance best practices; experience implementing HR frameworks in nonprofits.Volunteer Engagement: Proven ability to engage, manage, and support volunteers effectively.Collaboration & Governance: Skilled in working collaboratively with the CEO while respecting operational boundaries.Fundraising & Sustainability: Commitment to supporting fundraising initiatives and sustaining the charity's financial health.Mission Alignment: Passionate about Volunteer Well's mission and commitment to growth.Lived Experience & Diversity StatementThe Volunteer Well is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
