The ideal candidate will have a strong background in back-end development using Java and front-end development using Angular, with extensive experience in modern web technologies and frameworks.This position is hybrid, requiring 2-3 days a week in any CGI Atlantic location: Halifax, NS, Moncton or Fredericton, NB, Stratford, PE, or St. John's, NL. Additionally, Reliability clearance is required for this role (must reside in Canada 5+ years to be eligible).Your future duties and responsibilitiesResponsibilitiesBackend Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Spring BootBuild and optimize data layers with Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, and effective transaction managementManage database versioning and migrations with Flyway or similar toolsDevelop and maintain RESTful APIs for system integrationIntegrate pub/sub messaging systems (e.g., Kafka) and caching solutions (e.g., Redis) to support high-performance, event-driven architecturesEnsure high code quality through comprehensive unit testing and adherence to best practicesFrontend Development: Develop responsive, modular web applications using Angular and modern web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript)Collaborate with designers to deliver intuitive, user-friendly interfacesOptimize front-end performance and ensure scalability of the UI componentsPlatform & Automation: Deploy, manage, and monitor applications in Kubernetes (K8s) and OpenShift environmentsImplement CI/CD pipelines using Tekton, ArgoCD, GitLab CI, or similar toolsContribute to DevOps practices for smooth, automated delivery and operationsTesting & Quality Assurance: Write and maintain unit and integration tests across the stackPerform automated REST API testing using Playwright or similar toolsCollaborate with QA teams to ensure comprehensive test coverage and high application reliabilityRequired Qualifications To Be Successful In This RoleBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience10+ years in software development, including 5+ years leading solution design and implementationStrong Java and Spring Boot experience (5+ years), with focus on microservicesProficient in Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, and distributed transactionsExperience with Flyway or similar toolsFamiliar with Kafka (preferred), RabbitMQ, or other messaging systemsStrong SQL and experience with Redis, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server3+ years with Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3Experience integrating RESTful APIs and using NgRx (preferred)Good to have Frontend performance tuning, PWAs experienceHands-on with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShiftExperience building CI/CD pipelines with Tekton, ArgoCD, GitLab CI, or similarUnit testing with JUnit, Mockito; frontend testing with Karma/JasmineFamiliar with API testing tools like Playwright or PostmanLife at CGITogether, as owners, let's turn meaningful insights into action.
