Job Description

Leads the plant to accomplish the companys mission and objectives through operating a manufacturing organization and facility transforming raw material into a finished product that meets the customers needs in quality, cost and delivery through continuous improvement. Essential Functions Directs and assist the activities of: Production, Process, Project and Electric Engineering, Quality Control, Plant Maintenance Engineering, Production Planning, H.R., Purchasing and Plant Accounting. Assist in the development of the Newly Weds Foods, Business Plan, Standards, and Objectives. Provide reports pertaining to Production, Quality Control standards, scrap control, efficiency, safety, housekeeping, plant security and personnel. Responsible for manpower planning and development of plant personnel to achieve objectives of the Company. Initiate the necessary formal programs to dispose of surplus, salvage, damaged and obsolete materials, etc. Maintain high level of inter-departmental communication. Maintain regular liaison with Corporate and sister Plants in accordance with need. Enforce floor disciplinary action as required in accordance with Company Employee Policies. Provide direction to Human Resources staff as required. Senior Management representative to Employee Council and Safety and Environment Steering Committee. Responsible for keeping building and grounds in good repair. Responsible for security and safety within the Newly Weds Foods Company facility. Initiate and/or evaluate feasibility studies on new product lines, ideas and preliminary studies in the areas of cost reduction, quality improvement or method changes. Report plant performance to the Director of Operations. Report all other pertinent information as the need arises. Non-Essential Functions Perform other various similar and related duties as required by the VP Manufacturing. Qualifications University degree or equivalent in Engineering or Applied Science. MBA preferred. Expert working knowledge of the high speed, highly automated manufacturing operations of the Edmonton plant, including production processes, equipment, layout, capabilities andmotivational plant management skills, through working knowledge of plant engineering and quality control, background knowledge of IT and general office functions. Minimum of ten (10) years experience in plant administration, production processes, engineering and budget control. General office setting. Periodic exposure to: (1) noise, (2) airborne dust, (3) food production odours, (4) walking and standing on concrete, (5) climbing steps, (6) standing on elevated surfaces.
