Participants attend Appleby to improve their English language skills and to experience Canadian culture. The Summer Boarding Program mirrors the Appleby College student experience, offering participants a glimpse of life as an Appleby student. Participants live in boarding, attend class, and take part in extracurricular activities and offcampus excursions. For more information, visit Evening Program Assistant, Summer Boarding Programs is responsible for the supervision, wellbeing, and safety of participants after the main program day, and into nighttime routines. Reporting to the Program Director, Summer Boarding Programs, this position supports the Summer Boarding Programs mission to create an exceptional oncampus living experience. This position is not an overnight role and is scheduled Monday to Thursday, with two Friday shifts during the contract period. Overnight stay on campus is required during the outlined training week. Responsibilities Actively supervise and lead participants during oncampus activities and scheduled leisure time. Establish strong communication with participants by being visible, approachable, and available to answer questions, provide guidance, mediate disputes, and maintain community standards. Facilitate and participate in meaningful recreation programming during evening activity periods. Assist with setup and teardown of all events and activities. Collaborate with Boarding Staff, Assistant Program Director, Program Director, and the Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs to maintain open communication and a positive residence culture. Participate in daily checkins with the Program Director prior to each shift. Support one offcampus excursion. Follow all summer program policies and procedures, including Applebys Mutual Respect Policy. Capture photos and videos of participants when members of the Communications Team are unavailable. Qualifications Are enrolled in postsecondary education. Have previous work or volunteer experience in boarding, recreation, or camps (an asset). Hold Bronze Cross and/or NLS lifeguarding certification (a strong asset). Can communicate effectively in a second or multiple languages (an asset). Are energetic, adaptable, and skilled at running group activities. Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies. Are reliable, professional, teamoriented, and creative.
