Senior Director of Ancillary Services The University of Calgary is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and servicedriven Senior Director to lead a diverse portfolio of revenuegenerating and missioncritical operations that directly shape the student experience, campus vibrancy, and financial sustainability of the institution. Reporting to the Associate Vice President Strategy, Enterprise and Commercial, the Senior Director will provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership across Residence Services, Student Food Services, Campus Bookstore, Conference & Event Services, Parking & Transportation, Unicard (Campus Card), and the University''s 1,000head cattle ranch. Revenue for the department exceeds $70million per year with over 130 dedicated team members. Strategic Operational Leadership & Vision Develop and execute a multiyear ancillary services strategy aligned with UCalgary''s academic, financial, and campus experience priorities. Lead a highperforming, integrated leadership team across housing, dining, events, parking, ranch operations, and hospitality. Partner with Commercial, Real Estate, Facilities Development, and Finance to plan longterm capital investments, optimize land use, and ensure sustainable asset management. Champion a culture of safety, inclusion, and studentcentered service delivery. Residence & Housing Portfolio Provide executive oversight for 10+ residential communities housing approximately 3,000 students. Collaborate with Facilities Management and Facilities Development on maintenance, renewal, and major capital projects. Lead operational input for the analysis, design, and business planning of increasing residence inventory by 1,300 beds. Work closely with Student Services, Wellness, and Campus Security to support student success and crisis response. Student Dining, Catering & Retail Food Services Oversee all student dining operations, catering services, and food service partnerships. Partner with Finance and Procurement on contract negotiations, vendor performance, and cost optimization. Coordinate with Athletics, Conference Services, and Summer Accommodations to support major events and highprofile guests. Conference, Events & Summer Accommodations Provide executive oversight for the University''s conference activities and shortterm accommodation programs. Collaborate with Athletics, Advancement, and external partners to position U of C as a premier destination for academic, corporate, and community events. Actively promote UCalgary as a conference and event destination. Work with Real Estate and Facilities teams to optimize space utilization and longterm asset planning. Parking & Transportation Oversee all campus parking operations, transportation planning, and mobility services. Partner with Facilities, Sustainability, and Campus Planning to align mobility strategies with longterm campus development. Bookstore Provide leadership and strategic direction for campus bookstore operations. Work closely with Teaching & Learning on supporting campus learning materials strategy. Liaise with Brand Experience team to ensure University brands are integrated and represented professionally. Ranch Operations (1,000Head Cattle Ranch) Provide strategic and operational oversight for the University''s ranching operations, ensuring alignment with academic, research, and community engagement objectives. Collaborate with faculties, Indigenous partners, and external industry stakeholders to maximize research, teaching, and community value. CrossFunctional Collaboration & Institutional Partnerships Work closely with Student Experience and Support on matters related to student experience, conduct, wellness, accessibility, and international students. Work with Real Estate on land use, commercial partnerships, and longterm development planning. Coordinate with Facilities Development on capital projects, renovations, and infrastructure planning. Ensure reliable operations, maintenance, and lifecycle stewardship with Facilities Management. Collaborate with Student Leaders on support programs, operational adjustments, and service rate increases. Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, ratesetting, and revenue optimization. Engage Commercial on business proposals, partnerships, and alternative project funding. Work with Human Resources on workforce planning, labour relations, and talent development. Support events, tournaments, camps, and visitor experiences with Athletics & Recreation. Ensure compliance, safety, and contract integrity with Risk Management & Legal. Advance reconciliation and culturally respectful partnerships with Indigenous Engagement. Represent Ancillary Services at external tables and institutional committees. Financial & Operational Stewardship Lead a portfolio generating significant annual revenue, ensuring all units operate sustainably and contribute positively to institutional financial health. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and longterm asset management. Ensure robust policies, procedures, and internal controls across all ancillary units. People Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of directors, managers, and operational staff. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and serviceoriented culture. Support positive labour relations and compliance with collective agreements. Qualifications / Requirements Graduate degree in business, hospitality, operations management, or related field. An MBA is considered advantageous. 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in large, complex, multiunit operations. Demonstrated success leading revenuegenerating enterprises with strong financial acumen. Experience with residence life, dining, hospitality, parking, and agricultural operations. Proven ability to lead through influence and navigate complex stakeholder environments. Experience in higher education is an asset.
