Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment as a Rheumatologist at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The term of appointment is five years, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date will be July 1, 2026. An aspirational leader is sought to drive change and advance the academic enterprise of the Division of Rheumatology over the next five years. The ideal candidate will be an internationally respected scholar and visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills. They will meaningfully engage the academic leadership of the University and the affiliated teaching hospitals to build strong cross-department and cross-discipline collaboration, bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity in research across disciplines, and provide strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of career. The individual will establish an overarching vision and strategic direction for the Division. The Director reports directly to the Chair of Medicine. The Division of Rheumatology at the University of Toronto is a leading academic program embedded within multiple teaching hospitals, including St. Michael''s, Sunnybrook, Mount Sinai, Toronto Western, and Women''s College Hospital. The division comprises approximately 40 full-time faculty, including clinician scientists and clinician investigators who dedicate substantial time to research, education, and patient care. Faculty expertise spans the management of complex rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, clinical trials, basic and translational research, and quality improvement initiatives. The division provides comprehensive training for residents, fellows, and other learners, with robust mentorship programs and city-wide research collaborations. Annually, faculty and trainees contribute actively to research, submitting numerous abstracts and participating in continuing education through programs such as the City-Wide Rheumatology Rounds. Through its integration of patient care, teaching, and research, the division plays a central role in advancing rheumatology at both the national and international levels. The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is at the centre of one of North America''s largest biomedical research, education and clinical care networks, the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. The Department of Medicine is one of the largest in North America, with over 900 full-time and over 900 part-time and adjunct faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 20 sub-specialty divisions.
