Treasurer Board of Directors, Culture Shock Canada Help us keep the rhythm of our organization strong! We are seeking a Volunteer Treasurer to provide financial leadership, guide budgeting, ensure compliance, and support fundraising initiatives. Oversee financial policies and internal controls, and promote long-term sustainability through sound fiscal practices. Financial reporting : Present clear, accessible financial updates to the Board, including cash flow, income, expenses, and reserves, helping members make informed decisions. Budgeting & planning : Lead preparation of the annual budget, ensure alignment with strategic goals, and monitor ongoing performance. Record keeping & compliance : Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all legal and CRA requirements are met, including the annual T3010 filing. Management of funds : Monitor bank accounts, cash flow, income, and expenses. Collaborate with committees to strengthen financial health and support fundraising initiatives. Risk management : Identify and mitigate financial risks, including potential fraud, shortfalls, or poor financial planning. Ethical stewardship : Serve as an ambassador for the organization. Uphold ethical financial practices, protect donor intent, and maintain public trust. Collaboration & capacity building : Work closely with the Chair, Board, and external accountants; help build financial literacy among Board members; document processes for future Treasurer transitions. Fundraising support : Provide financial insight to support fundraising campaigns, grant proposals, and donor-restricted fund management. Technology oversight : Ensure effective use of accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks, WagePoint) and secure financial data. Qualifications & Experience Background in accounting, finance, or business administration (CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred) Experience in budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and fund accounting for nonprofits or businesses Understanding of financial controls, audits, risk management, and charitable compliance (CRA rules for Charitable and Not-for-Profit organizations in Canada) Knowledge of fundraising financial management, grant reporting, and donor-restricted funds Ability to interpret financial data and advise the Board on risks and opportunities Proficiency in financial software (QuickBooks, Excel, or nonprofit-specific systems) Excellent written and oral communication skills Experience in the nonprofit/charitable sector, particularly arts or youth organizations, is an asset Previous experience as a Treasurer or Finance Committee Chair is an asset Connections in the financial or philanthropic sector for fundraising and donor relations is a plus Willingness to provide hands-on support when needed Time Commitment & Timeline Minimum 2-year commitment, including a 3-month provisional period Approximately 25 hours per week, with some flexibility for seasonal demands (e.g., budget preparation, annual filings) Attend 4 Board Meetings within the Year Attend an Annual Strategic Planning Weekend and the Annual General Meeting of members AGM TO APPLY: Please send your resume and a brief statement of intent to [email protected] indicating Treasurer Board of Directors Position in the subject line. About Culture Shock Canada Community Programs: Culture Shock Canada addresses issues of social isolation and self-esteem through structured Hip Hop dance-based education and enrichment programs for youth. Programs build relational, teamwork, and leadership skills and provide a platform for practicing those skills, developing social bonds, and working toward long-term goals with peers. In the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa, CSC offers structured after-school Hip Hop dance programs for children and youth ages 6-18 in partnership with local community centers, YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, schools, and other child and youth organizations. Activities take place on-site at partner locations in a safe and positive environment.
