JOB OVERVIEW Laurentis is seeking a results-driven, ambitious, and strategic communications professional to join our team in the role of Section Manager, Design Engineering (Mechanical). LEPs Operational strategy aims to pursue innovative commercial growth opportunities by providing medical isotopes and radio pharmaceuticals, nuclear sustainability solutions, engineering services, ageing management, commercial grade dedication assessment, single point vulnerability (SPV) assessments, and other services to the low carbon energy industry. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering, the successful candidate will utilize his/her managerial and leadership skills and experience for driving long-term sustainable revenue growth by strategically developing and delivering engineering solutions through the assigned staff to the nuclear industry worldwide. This includes fulfilling the role of a motivational, facilitative and a technical leader/manager guiding/directing/supervising the team consisting of professionals experienced in different fields of engineering, performing technical work for internal and external customers. The incumbent is also expected to take responsibility/accountability of projects and engineering management related tasks aligned with the strategic initiatives of the organization. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/JOB DUTIES Be responsible for providing technical advice/guidance/direction/supervision for systems/components design/analysis by associated engineering staff. Accountable for design and modifications of systems, equipment, and components, by associated discipline engineering staff. Collaboration with stakeholders including regulatory, operations, maintenance, projects staff supporting nuclear and non-nuclear systems and associated facilities and projects. Providing technical support for components stress analysis; medical isotopes related projects, developing Component, equipment, and Piping technical specifications/Programs; Configuration management, engineering design modifications and design basis control; Procurement Engineering; Analysis (structural, components, thermal hydraulics, CANDU Nuclear plants operational scenarios); engineering design following engineering processes under the Nuclear Management System. Carrying out managerial duties/accountabilities, which may be composed of professional and technical staff development/performance management. Requires performing this role in accordance with approved policies, procedures and standards while providing meaningful input to the business plan, formulation of department work programs, setting cost control targets and yearly performance objectives. Assigning tasks to design engineering staff, specifying the task execution parameters and setting deadlines for assignments, with appropriate monitoring. Acting as a coach and facilitator to create and sustain a positive and supportive team environment. Actively working with staff to empower them to attain optimal work performance with a high level of personal responsibility and self-management. Demonstrating openness and trust through the sharing of information and through establishing two-way team relationships, holding regular meetings with direct reports to discuss various subjects, including, safety, work plans, problems, and suggestions for improvement. Identifying training requirements required to perform tasks, and staff professional development, ensuring the training is relevant and evaluation measures are meaningful. Establish performance measures and carry out personal effectiveness appraisals and regular reviews. Make effective recommendations on staff selection and induction, taking appropriate and timely actions to deal with unsatisfactory performance, consistent with approved policies and procedures. Developing, reviewing, verifying, updating, modifying, and approving mechanical/ components designs, associated design documents and work schedules. Contributing to the development of job proposals and staffing strategies. Liaising with clients, vendors, contractors and other team members to ensure work is completed according to technical specifications. Communicating with other team members to project workload and resources. Author official documents including letters, reports, specifications, and design requirements. Mentor junior engineers and technicians Ability to lead design projects internally and externally and be responsible/accountable for technical accuracy of work being performed. Compliance to and improving existing engineering processes and procedures. Analyzing existing processes and leading improvement initiatives including self-assessments. Leading the engineering team to conduct research, perform diagnostics, and troubleshoot equipment. Demonstrating competency during performance of duties and interaction with clients and others and appropriate escalation of issues for resolution. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 8 years of professional engineering experience including design consisting of proven ability to guide and direct staff designing mechanical/ components (nuclear and non-nuclear) for nuclear power stations. Sound technical knowledge of designing, troubleshooting mechanical and components. Experience in the review/verification and certification of design, design reports, technical specifications, engineering calculations, piping/components sizing, performing design assessment/analysis, conceptual/preliminary/detailed engineering designs, CNSC code classification approvals, TSSA registration/reconciliation, process systems design including pressure boundary design, preparing design flowsheets, design manuals and other design documentation for nuclear and non-nuclear systems. Qualification to ASME Appendix XXIII, with extensive working knowledge and experience complying with CSA N285.0, ASME Section III (Class 1,2, 3, 4), CSA B51 (Class 6), ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.1, CSA N286.0, N286.1, N286.2, CSA N299 and ASME nuclear/non-nuclear QA programs preferred. Extensive knowledge and skills in software applications (Advanced Pressure Vessel, ANSYS, AutoCAD, AutoPipe etc. preferred) Experience in developing technical programs consisting of single point vulnerability (SPV), ageing management, equivalency assessments, and commercial grade dedication studies for mechanical and civil components and identifying their degradation mechanisms and remedial actions preferred. People orientated with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and maintaining positive, productive, and collaborative working relationships and partnerships externally and internally with a wide variety of stakeholders. Experience in establishing credibility, confidence, and earning trust. A highly collaborative and effective leader/professional is required for this position.
